People pay for newsgroups, whereas torrents are usually free. Paid torrents are rarely ever busted. Surely if the authorities ever wipe out all the free servers, they will go after the paid ones...

Newsgroups are much, much safer. That's why you don't talk about them. Nobody actually gets sued for downloading, it's the inherent re-uploading that comes along with P2P that gets people in trouble...
