Because you don't change the chain. Only rare occasions.

Mostly irrelevant since chains rarely break, but it does happen with bad luck, bad weather issues, and if you drive it long enough. OTOH, if it breaks/or skips it's not going to be a pretty site. ...

Thanks for the correction, friend! I wouldn't want anyone to link Honda "interference" engines exclusively to the type of cam/crank timing synchronizer they use (i.e. belt or chain). Good call.

Better named -- list of Honda Timing Belt vs Timing Chain since pretty much all Honda's are Interference engines. The list could be a bit easier to use if they grouped the cars by model then year...

I have 2006 Honda Accord w/4 cylinder. Stupid manual tells you when to change rubber belt on V6 but doesn't list mileage when to change 4-banger chain belt, nice work Honda.

Not for that price, but MetroHonda regularly has a $469/569 (4cyl/6cyl) special and Hendrick $499/599 which includes the WaterPump and most other belts

Yeah, right up until your tensioner fails, the chain stretches over time then skips costing you thousands. It's more common than you'd expect. I had this happen on that exact model/engine. Once...

Sadly, they just confirmed with me that this is ONLY for the belt. Water pump, drive belts, coolant are all extra. I'm bummed that no longer offer that $398 special. Lots of great feedback...

Misinformation. Manufacturers DO NOT and CANNOT "void" warranties due to non-dealer performed services within the warranty period. It is illegal. I take my Japanese cars to independents from Day 1.

I think most mechanics/service reps at dealers would recommend replacing the water pump at the same time. Hamilton Honda, also in NJ, used to have some great deals on timing belt replacement. Had...

Does this include water pump also?

Since 2003 I think all the Accord 4 cyl have timing chains and V6 have belts. You can check your maintenance book (online if it's lost). Pre 2003 Belts were the usual in most Honda sedans and...

Yep, you're right about spending that much on it at this point. I used to run a MAC Tool route, called on many shops, and I've seen Honda engines trashed because of timing belts. I don't know...

Do you need to replace a timing belt for a 2003 Honda Accord EX V4 Coupe? I was under the impression new Honda cars have timing chains which do not need to be replaced.

if you actually wait close to the 100k replacement time it will be pretty obvious. The old belt will be pretty old looking (usually dry and cracked or atleast faded color) so just check under the...

Big question is do you have a belt or a chain? V6 have belt -- typical advice is 7yr or 100K I'm pretty sure the 4 cyl have a chain 1999 Accord V6 -- just had 2nd Timing...
