Toyota Extended Warranties 1/2 price

I just saved almost 700.00 on a Toyota Extended Warranty. This is NOT an aftermarket warranty. The dealer where I bought my car wanted list price (1350.00 for 6 year 100,000 mile coverage). At that price I declined.

What I don't think is widely known is that you can buy an extended warranty from any dealer. It does not have to be bought from the dealer that you bought your car from. There are 2 who seem to be well know on various forums and have very aggressive pricing: Midwest Toyota in Kansas
(800-530-5789) and Greenfield Toyota in Mass(413- 772-0989). I'm sure there are others.

Toyota list prices can be found here: List Prices [toyotafinancial.com]

For my car (Rav4) the 6 year 100,000 is listed at 1350.00. I purchased mine from Midwest Toyota for 654.00. Just a heads up for anyone buying a new Toyota and interested in an extended warranty.

"Has anyone tried the used car warranties they are advertising on TV.

In my experience,
warranty work, if needed, takes place in the first few months of owning the car.
After that?
If something really big does happen, like a engine or tran, you are on your own.
Mainly because, engines just don't all of a sudden go boom. Something has to happen and most of the time its something small over a extended period of time.
By you not seeing that small something, like a tiny oil leak, you have basically voided your warranty on that particular part.
If a car came in for extended warranty work at our dealership, it got a quick inspection for obvious signs of trouble. Like caked on old oil under the carriage, signs of unattended fluid leaks, physical damage to the underside like a dent in the oil pan or transmission pan. Coolant clarity and flow.
If anything was found, the car was lowered and the bad news was given to the owner that because we found "X" your work isn't covered by the warranty.

Before you buy any warranty, read the fine print as to what will void coverage. If it says something like you MUST maintain all scheduled maintenance, like changing the oil at least every 5,000 miles or whatever the manufacturer recommends. Then you better make sure it is done. If not, you give them just one more excuse to not do the work.
Most modern cars have sensors that can tell everything from when and how many times the hood has been opened to when the oil filter has been removed. "

I would add that on my Toyota Avalon, I have self leveling Xeon headlights. When there was a problem with the headlights during the extended warranty period I was advised that these $2589/ea headlight assemblies are considered "TRIM" and not covered by the Platinum Zero deductable warranty. "TRIM" is not covered by these warranties. Read the fine print and ask questions. Ultimately my headlights assemblies (I needed both) were covered by an extended factory warranty bulletin that was sent to all affected Toyota Avalon owners.

If I bought an extended warranty from the dealer yesterday which was too expensive, can I cancel it anytime? The finance manager said it is prorated. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Was it for a new car? IIRC, you should a certain amount of days in order to cancel your plan. Maybe even 30 days. The only thing is that if you plan on buying the extended warranty somewhere else then it will have to come out of your pocket and can not be rolled into your car loan, like it was at the dealership. See if they will price match it.

There was definitely a range of years there that were very bad, but right now I would not say reliability is bad. It really depends on what model you buy.

In the last 10 years I've owned a 80's corvette and a 90's mustang gt, neither of which needed anything from me but basic maintenance.

Certainly a camry is a better car than a malibu, but for that kind of money it had sure as heck better be. Once you go upmarket a bit there are respectable cars to choose from from almost any maker.

Quote from Suntot :
I agree that there have been some good american cars, but like you said that was in the 20's-60's

We are in 2009 and right NOW their reliability sucks. Toyota and Honda have been producing good cars for the last 20 years, that's why people know that reliability = Toyota and Honda.

I bought a warranty for my Tacoma through Troy almost a year ago. He is very professional and willing to help. I had bought the truck used and wanted the 7yr/100,000 just in case.

New Sienna CE van. 7/100,000 miles for $1700 plus $500 for 4 yrs/55,000 miles of oil change, $2200 for both. He offered me $2200 for warranty then included the oil change. My wife said it was for the peace of mind but now I think it was a ripoff. I should cancel this and look for OP's deals.

I guess we hate those american cars made in the last 30 years because most of us inherited those cars when we were in high school and they sucked. I guess they took the consumer for granted and now they're paying the consequences of forgetting the basic rules of capitalism. Is the same Boeing is doing now, they want to sell the Air Force (or the american people) overprice piece of junks just because they're "American". Is just basic economics, you won't buy a dell for the price of a Mac or Lenovo laptop. As long as the automaker is making cars here and buying supplies from US suppliers, I don't don't see where your American pride is hurt. You should take offense on those business models where you get the same over priced crap with different logo or skin. The day Toyota & Honda stop making reliable cars, they will go belly up too.

P.S. Any airplane "american" or "european" has about 80% of the parts are not made in the country the planes are assemble. Better to have planes build with European parts than Chinese made parts that will kill many servicemen/women in the long run.

Just curious, what part was I misinformed on?

And some people are real douche nozzles.

Did you know that toyota is based in japan? how much of their profits do you think goes back to japan, 100%?

How much tax credits did the American tax payers give to toyota to build that plant in ky?

Hey if I want my money to stay in America, why do you care???
-----------------------

Toyota is a publicly traded company with an investment of about $12 billion in the United States.

Unlike Ford/GM, Toyota makes profits. Of those profit, about 15% stays in the US because of the shareholders being US Citizens/Residents. Unlike the American shareholders of Ford/GM, who bring in no profits, the American people holding shares of Toyota bring in money and pay taxes on it.

You want your money to stay in America so you bought a ford? Here is the truth for you, Ford and GM are not making any money... and Toyota and its shareholders, even though is taking profits to Japan, is still giving more money to the US treasury in the form of taxes/Employment than GM/Ford?Chrysler who are just asking for more and more money.

I am a proud American and a Proud Owner of an American built Toyota Camry built by hardworking Non-Unionized American Workers in Georgetown, KY.

You're forgetting one fairly major point. Where do the parts come from?

Toyota and Honda source virtually all of their parts from asian manufacturers. We might assemble it here, but that's a fairly small piece of the pie.

GM and Chrysler may be hemorrhaging money, but Delphi, Champion, Faurecia, Delco Remy, Mallory, etc. still employ tons of people.

These people pay taxes, no?

Sigh. As does Toyota. This protectionist nonsense will set the world back by a couple of decades. It sucks that blue collar families are losing their jobs, but they need to get re-trained in a field that matters for the current century. The American unions killed the domestic auto market. Let's not make that mistake again.
