Toyota Extended Warranties 1/2 price

I just saved almost 700.00 on a Toyota Extended Warranty. This is NOT an aftermarket warranty. The dealer where I bought my car wanted list price (1350.00 for 6 year 100,000 mile coverage). At that price I declined.

What I don't think is widely known is that you can buy an extended warranty from any dealer. It does not have to be bought from the dealer that you bought your car from. There are 2 who seem to be well know on various forums and have very aggressive pricing: Midwest Toyota in Kansas
(800-530-5789) and Greenfield Toyota in Mass(413- 772-0989). I'm sure there are others.

Toyota list prices can be found here: List Prices [toyotafinancial.com]

For my car (Rav4) the 6 year 100,000 is listed at 1350.00. I purchased mine from Midwest Toyota for 654.00. Just a heads up for anyone buying a new Toyota and interested in an extended warranty.

"Has anyone tried the used car warranties they are advertising on TV.

In my experience,
warranty work, if needed, takes place in the first few months of owning the car.
After that?
If something really big does happen, like a engine or tran, you are on your own.
Mainly because, engines just don't all of a sudden go boom. Something has to happen and most of the time its something small over a extended period of time.
By you not seeing that small something, like a tiny oil leak, you have basically voided your warranty on that particular part.
If a car came in for extended warranty work at our dealership, it got a quick inspection for obvious signs of trouble. Like caked on old oil under the carriage, signs of unattended fluid leaks, physical damage to the underside like a dent in the oil pan or transmission pan. Coolant clarity and flow.
If anything was found, the car was lowered and the bad news was given to the owner that because we found "X" your work isn't covered by the warranty.

Before you buy any warranty, read the fine print as to what will void coverage. If it says something like you MUST maintain all scheduled maintenance, like changing the oil at least every 5,000 miles or whatever the manufacturer recommends. Then you better make sure it is done. If not, you give them just one more excuse to not do the work.
Most modern cars have sensors that can tell everything from when and how many times the hood has been opened to when the oil filter has been removed. "

I would add that on my Toyota Avalon, I have self leveling Xeon headlights. When there was a problem with the headlights during the extended warranty period I was advised that these $2589/ea headlight assemblies are considered "TRIM" and not covered by the Platinum Zero deductable warranty. "TRIM" is not covered by these warranties. Read the fine print and ask questions. Ultimately my headlights assemblies (I needed both) were covered by an extended factory warranty bulletin that was sent to all affected Toyota Avalon owners.

You're forgetting one fairly major point. Where do the parts come from?

Toyota and Honda source virtually all of their parts from asian manufacturers. We might assemble it here, but that's a fairly small piece of the pie.

GM and Chrysler may be hemorrhaging money, but Delphi, Champion, Faurecia, Delco Remy, Mallory, etc. still employ tons of people.

These people pay taxes, no?

In such a context, the distinction between "American" and "foreign" vehicles has become blurred (see figure 1). The press has noted that some models produced by the American-owned Detroit Three carmakers have lower domestic content than vehicles produced in the U.S. by foreign-owned carmakers, such as Honda and Toyota. For example, in model year 2006, the Ford Mustang had 65% domestic content and the Chevrolet Suburban 67%-both less than the Honda Accord at 70% and the Toyota Camry at 80%.3 In this Chicago Fed Letter, we illustrate two different ways to calculate domestic content of motor vehicles sold in the U.S.

The cars made by the foreign manufacturers in the US use a higher percentage of domestic content than the cars made in the US by the big 3.

And a lot of Fords and GMs that you see out on the roads are made either in Canada or Mexico, including all Crown Victorias...

Toyota pays US taxes on their imported parts? They may pay some sort of tariff, but since it's not for resale I don't think they're obligated to.

I would love to see all americans get re-trained in fields that matter and have some sort of functional retirement plan, I'm just not sure what those are anymore.

Quote from Don Black :
Sigh. As does Toyota. This protectionist nonsense will set the world back by a couple of decades. It sucks that blue collar families are losing their jobs, but they need to get re-trained in a field that matters for the current century. The American unions killed the domestic auto market. Let's not make that mistake again.

Good article.

I had no idea we'd reached anything like parity (per the article this is a fairly recent development).

I've owned a couple of Toyota's and I'd be hard pressed to identify a single part on either of them that came from this hemisphere.

"Underlying the convergence in the aggregate numbers, however, were substantial variations among individual carmakers. Among the Detroit Three, Chrysler had 71.3% domestic content in 2006, compared with just above 80% for both Ford and GM. Among Asianowned carmakers producing vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, domestic content ranged from 76.3% at Toyota to 18% at Hyundai. Among the two German-owned carmakers, BMW used only 31.7% domestic content in the vehicles produced at its South Carolina assembly plants, while Mercedes-Benz used 62% at its Alabama assembly plant."

Its not necessarily a 50% discount, the actual discount varies, but these dealerships listed, cut out the "haggle" from buying a warranty from your local dealership. Who will start out at the sticker price. And many will come no where near as close as those above listed. I'd imagine that the quotes received are just above the actual dealer cost.

Holy Crap...I talked to Midwest Toyota today (which is coincidentally the same place I purchased my truck) and purchased a 6 year/100,000 mile Toyota warranty for my '07 Tundra at over 50% off suggested retail! Best quote I got in Jacksonville was a couple hundred savings for a third party warranty from the local credit union, and I was just about to pull the trigger on that. Thank you soooooooooo much A-B for saving me WELL OVER $500!! woot Reps x4 for sure! And I'll come back and rep u again when I can LOL...
Do you know if they sell Lexus warranties?

We have purchased Honda warranties in the past this way. However, Honda recently changed their policy that dealers can only sell extended warranties to customers in the same state as the dealership. That has effectively put the 'low ball' warranty sellers out of business which is a shame, because it was a great deal.

Quote from mountainwizard1 :
I found a similar deal on Honda Warranties from a dealer in the Midwest as well. Found it on the web. If you are going to buy an extended warranty be sure to buy the one from a dealer.

New Sienna CE van. 7/100,000 miles for $1700 plus $500 for 4 yrs/55,000 miles of oil change, $2200 for both. He offered me $2200 for warranty then included the oil change. My wife said it was for the peace of mind but now I think it was a ripoff. I should cancel this and look for OP's deals.
Update: My wife was approved for 7.9% for 72 mos no down coz credit score is not so good. We called the finance manager to cancel the extended warranty and oil change. Finance manager does not want to lose our business so he looked for a low interest rate.
He found 5% for us instead of the 7.9 but with the extended warranty and oil change.

Both of us gained, he got the warranty/oil change and we got the 5%.
So our warranty and oil change became free.

$420 a month, 72 mos at 7.9% without the warranty/oil change
$420 a month, 72 mos at 5% with warranty/oil change.

When I bought my new FJ Cruiser in Vancouver WA I got the Toyota Warranty for 7 years 100K miles for 999.00 but I got ripped off on the LoJack. Not that the dealer ripped me off - I am just tired of the LoJack people calling and sending junk mail to extend the warranty on the the LoJacK which is a couple hundred bucks and to bring it in for a $100 inspection to make sure it's working. Feels sleeeeeezzzzyyyy. I should have just bought a GPS tracker from Radio Shack - then I could have some fun on the computer when the kids borrow the car and then if it ever did get stolen I could find it myself and have a "nice conversation" with the thieves before getting the cops involved...

Not to be preachy but it sounds like you didn't gain. You were approved for 7.9% for 6 years because of a poor credit score? Shouldn't you be looking into a cheaper used car and puting that extra money towards credit card debt/other loans which are causing your poor credit scores? You're going to be paying $32440 for this vehicle over the next 6 years plus all of the extra costs associated with owning a car. The KBB value of this car is $23000. Yes, you're getting an extended warranty and some oil changes but do you really want this $32k expense hanging over your head for the next 6 years?
