Toyota Extended Warranties 1/2 price

I just saved almost 700.00 on a Toyota Extended Warranty. This is NOT an aftermarket warranty. The dealer where I bought my car wanted list price (1350.00 for 6 year 100,000 mile coverage). At that price I declined.

What I don't think is widely known is that you can buy an extended warranty from any dealer. It does not have to be bought from the dealer that you bought your car from. There are 2 who seem to be well know on various forums and have very aggressive pricing: Midwest Toyota in Kansas
(800-530-5789) and Greenfield Toyota in Mass(413- 772-0989). I'm sure there are others.

Toyota list prices can be found here: List Prices [toyotafinancial.com]

For my car (Rav4) the 6 year 100,000 is listed at 1350.00. I purchased mine from Midwest Toyota for 654.00. Just a heads up for anyone buying a new Toyota and interested in an extended warranty.

"Has anyone tried the used car warranties they are advertising on TV.

In my experience,
warranty work, if needed, takes place in the first few months of owning the car.
After that?
If something really big does happen, like a engine or tran, you are on your own.
Mainly because, engines just don't all of a sudden go boom. Something has to happen and most of the time its something small over a extended period of time.
By you not seeing that small something, like a tiny oil leak, you have basically voided your warranty on that particular part.
If a car came in for extended warranty work at our dealership, it got a quick inspection for obvious signs of trouble. Like caked on old oil under the carriage, signs of unattended fluid leaks, physical damage to the underside like a dent in the oil pan or transmission pan. Coolant clarity and flow.
If anything was found, the car was lowered and the bad news was given to the owner that because we found "X" your work isn't covered by the warranty.

Before you buy any warranty, read the fine print as to what will void coverage. If it says something like you MUST maintain all scheduled maintenance, like changing the oil at least every 5,000 miles or whatever the manufacturer recommends. Then you better make sure it is done. If not, you give them just one more excuse to not do the work.
Most modern cars have sensors that can tell everything from when and how many times the hood has been opened to when the oil filter has been removed. "

I would add that on my Toyota Avalon, I have self leveling Xeon headlights. When there was a problem with the headlights during the extended warranty period I was advised that these $2589/ea headlight assemblies are considered "TRIM" and not covered by the Platinum Zero deductable warranty. "TRIM" is not covered by these warranties. Read the fine print and ask questions. Ultimately my headlights assemblies (I needed both) were covered by an extended factory warranty bulletin that was sent to all affected Toyota Avalon owners.

Quote from punjabibynature :
-----------------------

Toyota is a publicly traded company with an investment of about $12 billion in the United States.

Unlike Ford/GM, Toyota makes profits. Of those profit, about 15% stays in the US because of the shareholders being US Citizens/Residents. Unlike the American shareholders of Ford/GM, who bring in no profits, the American people holding shares of Toyota bring in money and pay taxes on it.

You want your money to stay in America so you bought a ford? Here is the truth for you, Ford and GM are not making any money... and Toyota and its shareholders, even though is taking profits to Japan, is still giving more money to the US treasury in the form of taxes/Employment than GM/Ford?Chrysler who are just asking for more and more money.

I am a proud American and a Proud Owner of an American built Toyota Camry built by hardworking Non-Unionized American Workers in Georgetown, KY.

I'm not surprised by your clouded perception, lot's of Americans share your unfortunate point of view.

But you will never understand the economics behind the trade imbalance, that's pretty clear. Anyhow, try to comprehend this statement:

"When GM negotiated a new $14 hourly wage for many future auto workers, ABC Radio chose to use something I said to sum up this situation brutally: "For the first time since before the First World War, we will have auto workers who can't afford to buy the vehicles that they produce." If anyone believes that's a winning strategy for growing our economy, you would be wrong. You cannot improve an economy by making consumers poorer."

Many may be jealous of Detroit's union and think screw them because I don't get what they get.

But ultimately ALL Americans will be getting the shaft...

What's next:

The Postal union? Teachers union? Dock workers union? Transit Union?

Do you really want to drive the wages down to $12/hour because you despise Detroit's union and admire the Japanese for making a car by paying Americans less?

Call me crazy, but I want fair wages for all Americans. If Americans can't buy the things that make America great, who wins?

My card was charged right away, it posted to my account 3 days later but I still have not received any paperwork. I bought mine on 3/23/09. I think he told me 10 days for their paperwork and a little longer for Toyota's.

yes. every set wage is next. fair wages should be dictated by the economy, not by governments or organized workers.

and "... the things that make America great..."?
What are those things? crappy cars?
I'm not proud of that.

I didn't want to scroll through 13 pages of stuff, so this may have been discussed.

Still, in case it wasn't, I thought I should point out that not all Toyota dealerships will accept the Toyota extended warranty.

I did my research last year (7/08) and found that Servco Toyota in Hawaii has their own warranty plan, and will not accept the standard Toyota Extended Warranty. In fact, AFIK, they don't offer the standard Toyota warranty option to their customers.

I was also told that if someone imports their Toyota from the mainland (continental states), that they (Servco) will not honor the standard Toyota Extended Warranty. They will only honor their "Servco Toyota" warranty.

I just assume that there are other dealerships out there who are pulling the same thing, so I thought other Toyota owners should know. If you decide to purchase a warranty from another state, verify from your local Toyota dealership that they will accept the warranty you are purchasing.

This link has add'l info: http://www.intuitive.com/blog/toy...ranty.html

I was going to purchase the warranty through:
| Neil Hull CIO |
| [email protected] |
| CELL 785 217 3212 |
| Office 816 942 5200

I didn't actually purchase the warranty from him, but I read good things about him from the link above. Good luck if you decide to try it out.

I think this is BS. Toyota warranties come from Toyota directly ..They are valid in every dealership across US. If someone is not honoring them you can complain to Toyota and even file charges against them as its illegal.

agreed. These are Manufacturer warranties. Unless those dealerships aren't Toyota dealerships they should accept it. I'd say call the warranty line and check to see if that dealership is in their database.

Believe what you want. My understanding is that dealerships are privately owned, and can choose to accept a warranty or not. I already went through the motions and spoke with Servco directly. I'm just sharing my findings with you.

Here's my last email from Neil, acknowledging the dealership option:

*********************************************

NIC,

Sorry to hear about that. Any Toyota dealership can refuse to take the plan
since they are owned by individuals. It's a shame that they don't take the
Toyota plans. I don't carry any 3rd party plans so I am afraid I can't help.

Good luck and enjoy the islands. I miss the ocean life so much.

That's Neil of a dealership right? Call the actual Warranty line. I'm pretty sure Toyota has guidelines for dealerships to be called Toyota Dealerships.

That's a real problem, considering over 70% of our economy is driven by American consumer spending.

Unfortunately, I don't know that wage inflation will help matters. The bottom line is that our workers are providing the same service that lots of other workers can do and those workers already cost less.

The only way to equalize that equation would be with protective tariffs which, while great for the industry they protect, ultimately screw everyone else since they bring up the cost of imported goods.

Skilling up the workforce would help to a degree, but ultimately we just don't have the jobs to support them. In the few industries where we do have such needs, much of the work is either exported or imported via H1 visa holders.

I respect what the unions want. I would really like to see people from this generation get a living wage and a real retirement like our parents had, unfortunately that ship has sailed.
