Because HDMI 2.0 is not natively supported by UHD 620 and it adds extra costs to add internally DP to HDMI 2.0 converter. Since this Laptop has one TB3 port and one Type-C Port, both capable of delivering 4K at 60 Hz, I don't think that HDMI 1.4 is any big deal here.
very worth deal if you only want a light laptop. bring down to 901 when you use ID.me below add coupon button to verify student. and a very popular CB website can get 10% for your purchase
This is still a 15 Watt TDP Ultrabook CPU and thermals are fine. And this is not thinnest and lightest 14" laptop and has good cooling.

Why are they still using HDMI 1.4 ports on newer laptops?

Any usb-c dock will do... Can put it anywhere.

Personally use the following:

It does not have any propriety docking port like before as they use Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. So, any TB3 dock or Type-C Dock will work.

The usb type c and thunderbolt thing couldn't be more confusing. The people who designed them to share the same port have too much water in brain.
Just one cord... Perhaps you are over thinking it Big Grin

The T490 is a compromise for size. For what it is worth, I think the T480 is a better bet for memory and battery upgrades.
