I switched to Dish about 2 months ago. I wanted whole home DVR and DTV would not offer me anything, even though I was a 7 year customer. They were going to charge me $400 to set up a Genie in my house with 3 additional TVs. I immediately called Dish and they set me up with a Hopper, 3 additional TVs, premiums for 3 months, and a $20 credit for a year. Right now I am saving $75/month with Dish and I have superior equipment than I did with DTV. Even after the credit expires, I am still saving $55. After I installed Dish I called DTV to cancel and they were flabbergasted. They sent me to retention and the guy said, "I wish you would have spoken to me. I could have done something for you." I told him they should allow ALL of their employees to work with and retain long-time customers. I also told him it's bad business to treat potential customers better than long-time, loyal customers. Anyway, if you want an actual deal, make the switch. That extra $75 in my pocket is pretty slick.

I have decided that I will no longer accept being treated like crap while new customers are treated like family... The only acceptable standard is the same deal as you are giving to new customers. That means, I will probably never stay with any TV hose for more than 2 years...Moreover, the fact that the monthly cost goes up by more than $20 per month after the first year, means that I will probably change TV ho EVERY YEAR... |

My contract was up in June and I called them and told them I was getting offers from Comcast and AT&T to switch and I was looking for a retention offer. I already have 3 HD DVR's and 1 HD box along with 2 SD boxes. They offered me a Genie and one client box to swap out my 2 SD boxes for free and free install, a $200 Visa gift card, free HD and DVR for a year ($20 off a month), and free Starz/Showtime for 6 months. I thought this was very competitive to what the competition was offering so I signed up for another 2 yrs. I have nothing but good things to say about their service.

Good to hear some are still happy with Directv, there is still hope for existing customers. They finally released an android app for the tablet. https://play.google.com/store/app...or&feature
Ironically my Sony S is the only compatible device and it's pretty picky about apps. I just need to rewire some things to get the DVR on the same network. Too many slick deals!

I'm about to disconnect my DirecTV service and start over in my wife's name. When she starts over, where do we get the best deal - by calling DirecTV, Or Costco or BestBuy or any other outlet?
Also, any recommendation how long should I wait before my wife starts the service in her name? |
