DirecTV customers - Free offers to stay with DirecTV

Update: Emailing them from their website works great. They will call you directly and they will have a written record of your complaint.
You can also call 1-800-824-9081 and at the voice menu say "cancel service".

I called DirecTV to see what counter offers they had in place. I am only a Select Choice customer from 1997 and have a 40 hour Tivo unit, and get free local channels. So my monthly bill after taxes is now $51.

Current deals:
$10 off a month for the next 12 month - no commitment
OR
$100 credit on your bill - no commitment
AND/OR
Free channels for a few months - no commitment
AND/OR
Miscellaneous DVR type of freebies/discounts - normally 2 yr commitment required.

Original posting deals that were going on:
Here is what the rep outlined (they know about the Dish Network special):
  • Upgrade Tivo to 80 hour free, and gives you a $100 rebate on top of that
  • 2 months Premium service free
  • 6 months of Showtime free
  • 3 months of Starz free

Hmmm....decisions, decisions.

Good luck!

According to trehutch on 6/19/15, the new number to call is 1-855-407-3110 (now disconnected) and the deal code is GREATDEAL1. Aside from the new number/deal code, my script below should still give you the best chance of getting the best deal. Keep in mind that other than a couple of posters, as of May 27th most people have not been able to get the $200 Visa Gift Card.
-4fit?

4/9/15 per 4fit?

-Call 1-800-531-5000
-Get to retentions department
-Confirm you are in retentions department
-Don't bother with their offers and simply request a cancellation 2 weeks out
-Confirm cancellation date
-Wait to receive "We want you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 877-250-4624 number and NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2 code
-If you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.
-If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 877-250-4624 number anyway and tell them you received the email
-You may get turned down for "not being in their system" yet
-If that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the system
-No matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try again
-You may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the start
-If all else fails, you can always call the 1-800-531-5000 number back before the date you set and have the cancellation removed and try the whole process again later

well, I called the number in the OP (just the regular customer service number?) and said " cancel service" when prompted.

Got to talk to Ann (very friendly and helpful) and all I have to say is DirecTV just won major brownie points in my book. they are willing to offer a lot to keep you as customer.

My new deal:
- $10 HD access - FREE FOR 12 MONTHS
$65.99 Choice Extra Package - 230 channels (ncludes sports pack)
- $20 OFF for 12 months
- $5 OFF for 24 months
FREE STARZ, SHOWTIME FOR 6 MONTHS (do not have to call to cancel. they will roll off)
FREE HBO 3 MONTHS (call after 3 months to cancel)

EQUIPMENT OFFERS:
FREE 2nd HD DVR RECEIVER (waived the technician charge) - requires you sign a new 2 year contract

$47.99 + $6/month (2nd DVR) = $53.99/month
+
$250 ONE TIME CREDIT

needless to say, I'm staying! thanks OP and DirecTV

Customer of 11 years and never late on my bill. My discounts were ending so I called in to see if I can get my discounts renewed since I truly can not afford the regular price and need a discount to stay with them or else I would need to cancel. They said there are no discounts available at this time. I guess I would need to look to the cable company to get a cheaper basic service.

I would not sign up or change a directv package right now. This week they are supposedly coming out with a 5 tuner DVR and I would hate to be stuck with the old tech by signing up or committing to now. HMC has been out since 2011. Post is pointless.

09/25/2012
Customer for 1 year, no late payments. Gave me 1 free HD DVR and 1 HD receiver for $49. Waived the HD service fee for 12 months and gave me $10 off my bill for 12 months.
Made me extend my contract.

10/02/2012directv customer for last 9 years, current bill of approx. $100 per month, do not watch much hbo, etc, or sports. Directv refused to upgrade boxes even though they were broken, without renewal of contract. Got Century link flyer in mail, signed up for 10mbps internet and same number of channels as directv for $96, 1 year contract, getting a $250 amex cad free and a samsung galaxy tablet for free.

10/04/2012DirecTv customer for 14 months (this time, first subscribed about one year after the company started) Called last weekend and I was offered $10 off for (I think) 12 months, 4 months of Showtime and the Red Zone Channel. I was told this was the only offers available at the time. I declined them.

This morning I e-mailed via their website and stated that I'd received a letter from Dish Network (true) and when comparing packages their top tier packages, without premium channels (America's Top 250) found that that package would be $36 less than what I'm paying for the Xtra package from DirecTv. I was sent an e-mail back giving me a phone number and PIN code to call in with.

I just spoke with the rep and she took $15 off for 15 months, $20 off for 12 months and $5 off for 24 months with a one time credit of $25. A total savings (over time) of $610.

She said DirecTv is always willing to work with their customers.

This worked out pretty well, so I thought I would pass it on.
Two weeks ago I called and disconnected immediately (we are in the midst of a move), and they really didn't give any pushback other than reminding me of the early term fee, which I said I would eat. So two weeks pass and I still haven't received my kits to return my receivers, and I call them back to ask where the kits are. At that point, the rep politely asks why I disconnected, noted that I had been with them for 18 years and started the offers.
Long story short, they restarted me with the new subscriber offer (e.g. XTRA for 39.99/month for a year and then 10/month off in years 2 and 3, free Genie upgrade, free NFL ticket for the '13 season, free Sports Pak for 3 months, free HBO, et al. for 3 months, and after I asked about AAA (which he couldn't do since I really wasn't new) he threw in another 5/month off for a year. And this was all simply because I actually terminated and was waiting for the return kits. Oh, and of course he zero-balanced my account on the "early term fee."
Something to consider, especially since the conventional wisdom is that current customers don't get treated as well as new customers. In my case, I can't say that was true.
Congratulations. So, do you think you did better than a new customer could do? I believe that a new customer could have gotten the deal you got PLUS the AAA $200 and possibly a RAF deal as well, another $200. I would say that what you call the conventional wisdom is FACT.

Right, of course, as far as AAA goes, But I arguably did better than a non-AAA new customer with the extra $60 kicker they threw in.

In my case I was still under contract -- by more than a year -- but I think your bargaining position is always strengthened once you're out of contract.

oh yeah im waiting till June. What i meant was, being out of contract can you cancel your service and get a new customer offer or are do you have to bargain with retentions while you still have their service?

You can not get a new customer offer. If you want to get the AAA or Costco deal and stack that with the Refer A Friend deal, then you would need to wait 2 years after you cancel your Directv service. If you have a Spouse, SO or whatever in your home, they might qualify the day after you cancel. They would need a different Social Securuty Number, a different telephone number, and a different credit card number, and decent credit.

If all you want is a "DEAL", then you will need to cancel your service, and at that time, Retentions will offer you a deal. If that "DEAL" is not acceptable to you, and If it is anything less than the New Customer deal (excluding AAA, Costco, and RAF) then you will need to make good on your bluff to cancel your service. If you set up the cancellation date for a week or so ahead, you MAY get some better offers by phone, so be sure to answer the odd ball calls on your caller id during this period.

Keep in mind that if you take a "DEAL" you may or may not be obligated to a new 24 month contract. If you want any new equipment, then you will almost certainly be required to renew the contract.

Now, if you are still not a happy camper, you will need to cancel your service, and send the equipment back to Directv. During this time, if not before, you may get phone calls from the Directv marketing group, so once again be sure to answer the odd ball calls on your caller id. The marketing folks will probably be able to offer you New Equipment, the same monthly $ cost, and freebies (NFL Sunday Ticket, Premium Channels for 90 days, etc.) as the New Customer deal. Note that you will not get Costco, AAA nor the RAF.

As always, with Directv, YMMV.

GENIE QUESTION: I currently have 5 dvrs/tivos on my account with choice extra. i also have 1 dvr from my brothers account (all movie channels) hooked up to my main TV where i do most of my TV watching. My question is this: My wife received a come back to directv offer that is the same as the new customer offer. if i were to get this offer with a genie and similar channel package and still keep my brothers DVR with all the movie packages, will the genie think that dvr is one of my own, or will it know that it is from another account. also with this new package if i go with 4 TVs what equipment will i get besides the genie.

The HDMI stopped working on my DVR, after the power blinked, some weeks back. (My Wii stopped working, as well, as did an older TV). They were all plugged into strips, which I've since replaced. I bought a new adapter cord for the Wii, which took care of its issue, but the TV is a goner Frown

After swapping cables, etc. and determining that the problem was indeed the DVR and not my TV or cables, I called DTV, and they sent me a new (refurb, of course), DVR, waived the shipping (I asked), gave me credit for no HD for the last weeks ($30), and told me to junk the old DVR--I just have to send back the card. I had an HR20, and they sent me an HR21. We waited for a a few weeks, since we wanted to watch what we had recorded, first Stick Out Tongue

That's about it for credits, for me, til around August, when it will be time to get free NFL ticket, etc. again Stick Out Tongue

So this thread lives on, just a heads up. I got on a "select choice" to get my bill under $50/mo. I really don't watch all the junk, mostly the local news. Anyway I was missing some of my favorites like ESPN 2 and NFL channel but they just popped up in my existing package. Here is a bit more info
Quote :
205 - Sports Mix
206 - ESPN (Same)
207 - ESPN 2
208 - ESPN U (Same)
209 - ESPNews
210 - FS1
211 - FS2
212 - NBCSN
213 - MLB (Same)
214 - NFL
215 - NHL (Same)
216 - NBA (Same)
217 - Tennis (Same)
218 - Golf (Same)

If you think you are getting a "DEAL" then congrats. ENJOY!

My brother brought his DVR from another state. It worked fine with my HR34 (AKA Genie), It would not pick up his local channels since my dish is not within the shadow area of his local channels. The Genie will not think about the heritage of any attached device.

With new Genie installs, DTV is pushing ignorant tunerless boxes, but, I believe you can demand H25's which have a tuner. Also, you should demand RF capable remote control units. If you don't know the difference between tunerless & tuner capable or IR only and IR/RF remote you need to educate yourself BEFORE you call the Directv LANDSHARKS and place your order!Wink

ugh, DTV pulled some of those channels I listed above, YMMV. Still happy with my bill now and have plenty of options to fill in the blank channels, i.e. Roku, Android sticks, xbox, etc. My total Clink 12Mbps DSL and Directv Select Choice is $65/mo so well under budget.

here's a juicy rumor I'd like to see happen. Like the Tablet app, value added is key to keeping me around.

Sources: DirecTV will acquire Hulu by month's end

Several sources with knowledge of the ongoing Hulu acquisition talks tell PandoDaily that a deal is imminent and that DirecTV is the likely victor. The acquisition price will be written with a "B," according to our sources, but just barely.

So what's the deal with Genie?
Is it worth getting and is DirecTV providing it for free if you threaten to cancel (like ST and other services)?
