If you're looking for extremely high capacity in a single drive, this 18TB hard drive is a great deal at $17.22 per TB. However, the current sale on the 14TB for $200 (at Best Buy) is a much better deal at just $14.29 per TB.

After glancing over the historical prices of the various sizes over the past few years, I think there's a good chance that the 18TB might hit $260 by the end of this year:

* 2018: 6TB $100 / 8TB $128 / 10TB $180
* 2019: 6TB $90 / 8TB $120 / 10TB $159 / 12TB $180 / 14TB $200
* 2020: 6TB $90 / 8TB $120 / 10TB $143 / 12TB $175 / 14TB $190 / 16TB $260 / 18TB $280
* 2021: 6TB $100 / 8TB $128 / 10TB $150 / 12TB $180 / 14TB $200 / 16TB $255 / 18TB $310

The above prices are the lowest price each drive hit during each year (according to historical SD posts for non-exclusive pricing). It's probably useless information, but the averages for the prices above are:

* 6TB (2018+): $95.00 ($15.83 per TB)
* 8TB (2018+): $124.00 ($15.50 per TB)
* 10TB (2018+): $158.00 ($15.80 per TB)
* 12TB (2019+): $178.33 ($14.86 per TB)
* 14TB (2019+): $197.67 ($14.12 per TB)
* 16TB (2020+): $257.50 ($16.09 per TB)
* 18TB (2020+): $295.00 ($16.39 per TB)

And if you wanted even more useless information, here's the best price per TB for each size (based on its lowest price ever):

* 6TB @ $90: $15.00 per TB
* 8TB @ $120: $15.00 per TB
* 10TB @ $143: $14.30 per TB
* 12TB @ $175: $14.58 per TB
* 14TB @ $190: $13.57 per TB
* 16TB @ $255: $15.94 per TB
* 18TB @ $280: $15.56 per TB

While doing all of this math, I realized that the 14TB at its current sale price of $200 ($14.29/TB) is still cheaper per TB than any of the other drives have been at their lowest price.

At 16TB+ you're going to be competing with data centers for drives.

Have a question. Why does HDD and SSDs not give as much drive space as advertised? if i am buying $18TB hdd, when formatted it should be $18TB. Instead we get much less. Is it a technical issue?

You can get a discount coupon by trading in an old hard drive, flash drive, etc. There is info on how to do it at the top of the thread he linked.
