I just opened mine, model:

WD140EDGZ-11B1PA0

Here's a thread about it on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoar..._and_they/

From the comments:
Quote :
These are CMR

Linux smartctl indicates they are helium-filled, 7200rpm drives.

Ran Crystal disk info on these while in a dock. They show 100% for the helium level and they all read 7200rpm.
For those doing the "storage" trade-in, folks seem to have luck with memory cards and flash drives, in addition to (what I'm sure was the intended) hard disk drives. If you have trouble with an associate who can't find the coupon, I was told it was under "other" (not sure what that means) and others have mentioned that it's in "recycling" (rather than "trade-in estimates").

Link to the BB page about this program:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/recy...8281022996

If Best Buy employee has trouble finding where to locate the coupon follow these steps!
"Traded in a hard drive and got an additional 15% off. $170 before tax out the door. Additional 10% off chase offer for Best Buy brings this down to $153 not including tax!

Best Buy employee has to click "recycle and save" and go through the process. Later there is a part where they can click landline, that is where the coupon is hidden!"

The required tab is hidden from lower level Best Buy employees. If they can't find it, a more senior level associate or manager needs to login to see it.
----------------------------------------------------------
^^re this suggestion: A basic employee at the counter had not even heard of this program (even though it has been ongoing for months). He could not find it following the (previously provided here in the wiki) instructions on where to look. He called the manager, who told him they have never been able to complete this process. Next ,the counter guy was trying to pass the buck back to me to go online and look for a mail-in trade-in your storage item option, or call 800-Bestbuy. (FYI there is not even any proper automated option to get to a human that I could work out. So after a couple of dead-end attempts, I picked sales to try to get to a human and was on hold for a while, refreshed this page and then saw this new suggestion.
Then I advised counter person that a management-level employee may need to login to see the option.

Moments later the management-level guy still had no luck finding it trying the methods already mentioned in this wiki.
Bottom line is while I was still on hold, the manager advised the counter person to give me a manual 15% off of a WD drive and I bought it. I would have preferred to have it shipped and use the coupon online and access extra cashback available. This way was still an equivalent for an either/or situation with the savings up-front instead of later with CB sites (10% + 5% as detailed in the thread somewhere).
---My experience- long term.
I hate how these trade-in offers @BB are often impossible to work out for their employees. No one communicates how to do them to the stores, apparently. Even after having these for many years, it is always a gamble to show up to try, based on who you end up getting at the counter, or else not even the management knows.
------------------------------------------

There is no stated end date on the recycle and save promo but the discount voucher has a valid date of 8/8/21 to 01/29/23 so get the voucher and bank it for the next 15 months.

This is what the voucher looks like. [ibb.co]

I really want the 18 to come on sale, but this is a good price at $14.21 per tb for the WD - easystore 14TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive, here's hoping even better prices come on black friday.

Edit removed URL I was beaten by ~2 minutes well played sir! Maybe next time I'll post the deal THEN buy the product. With the black friday guarantee (free best buy membership!) I had to buy two of these smaller drives (fmr ps2 model 80 owner here, the future is flipping insane).

This is tempting. Probably the closest we've had to that one Black Friday a couple years ago or so

I picked up a couple of these last year for a bit less but HDDs in general have been more expensive this year. Might be the best price you see for a while.

How does the 15% off when recycling an old harddrive work? Would I be able to get that discount if I buy in-store tomorrow, and if they don't have it in stock, would I be able to order it through them in-store and still get the 15% off?

UPDATE: Ordered store pickup last night, expecting it to be out of stock by the morning. Went in this morning, and what do you know, they were out of stock. Went to the recycling center, handed them an 8mb (yes you're reading that correctly) flash drive, asked if they could apply the discount to a pickup order. Rep even informed me that the price of the 14tb drive had dropped to $200 today, and tried to make sure I was paying the lowest possible price for it. He refunded me 15% of the price, handed me the drive, and I was out the door.

$170 for 14TB - $12.14/TB + tax. Applause

Last year was $189.99 for 14tb on 10/28. Extended return window means one could purchase and hold through Jan 16 in case price drops further and ask for adjustment.

BestBuy had a Black Friday price guarantee. If it goes down before or on Black Friday, they'll refund the difference. Think it'll hit $179 by then?
