Would someone with knowledge of gaming monitors might md chiming in on this monitor? It seems like a decent price for 4K

Probably the cheapest thing you'll see for something with those specs. Would be much better if it was a curved screen though.

It's 1440p and it's actually pretty good for the price. The main competitor at this price point is a HP X32 which is a larger 31.5 inch screen for exactly the same stats at 1440p 165hz.
The only drawbacks with this are no local dimming, HDR10, and somewhat low peak HDR brightness but I'm very content with how bright it is already. There may be ghosting at 165hz but it has zero flickering thanks to Free Sync. No USB ports and no built in speakers. And FYI the G55 is the version with a curve screen, the G50 is the flat screen. Sometimes it blacks out if you put your PC on sleep mode and the power button seems to not work on this monitor, just unplug it and plug it back in.

Tldr: yes its worth a buy if you're upgrading from a 1080p 60hz and it comes with good perks for 1440p, but no local dimming, USB ports, or built in speakers. For the price it's definitely worth it unless you are aiming for 4K gaming.

I have none of the issues you have and what's wrong having HDR10? Local dimming is expensive and low peak hdr brightness is very common. That is not a con.
