I use several of these and this is a very good price. These are fully manageable via the web interface without any additional software or licenses. They support all the basic things you would need for a small home office or small business. I did have one struck by lightning and it did fry a couple of the ports, I didn't try to do a warranty claim because it was a lightning strike but I have used netgears warranty for other stuff and was very happy. Repped and TU

*** If you need POE++ or multi gigabit connectivity, the eight port is also on sale for $334 vs $439

yes, this is a good deal as you are saving $30; regular price $100.

I have been using the TP-link 5 port (4 x poe) that I paid about $40 (after discounts).

62W doesn't seem like much if you really have 8 POE devices. Hopefully they're all fairly low end / low power.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

They've got an unmanaged / basic 5 port (4 POE+) 63W switch for $44 or so, so same maximum per. switch power output, less administrative controls, less POE+ ports, but if your devices are using like 10-15W each and you've got several then you may end up exceeding the power limits of the 8-port with only 4-6 ports in use or something so at that point one has to consider the cost per. powered port that can be supplied as well as the administrative functions as opposed to the savings to get lots of ports and maybe not enough power.

I think it's rare to have 8 POE devices, at least 1 or 2 will be some sort of uplink or computer. Plenty of devices are under 5 watts like cameras.

I think this level of poe devices are really meant for POE cameras and other low consumption devices (If memory serves, the cameras tend to max out at about 10 watts. So even there you wouldn't be able to power 8 cameras...) The $300 one mentioned in the first comment is the type for people with multiple POE routers or the like (consumption wise).

Bought another switch I do not really need, but I have an idea of how I can utilize in my home environment. Thanks, OP

Does anyone know if this thing will allow logging of what is sent through the internet?
I recently got the eero for the mesh network and it does not allow that.

No. Look at "firewalla". Get a purple - or gold - depending on your connection speed.

Some important features the OP missed:
* Supports per-port VLANs
* Supports per-port POE power cycling
* Software is web based: I assume this means you connect to the device itself, and not some crappy cloud managed system

I currently have a Netgear switch in my attic that's powered by POE. Can this be powered by POE? I can't seem to find the answer quickly but I'm still checking.
