To my knowledge, most of their cameras allow recording to sd card without any subscription. You still get motion alerts, but there's a 5 minute cool down period between notifications without a subscription.
You'd have to go back a few versions on their cameras to not have free sd card recording. The only one I can think of right now is the basic doorbell camera that doesn't have sd card capability.
I can vouch for Cam v3, Pan Cam v3, Floodlight Cam (+ pro version), Battery Cam Pro, Cam OG... All allow sd recording for free including use of their app to view recordings.
Subscription is $3 a camera and I think you can go unlimited for $10-12 a month. Depends on whether you pay by the month or up to a year. They don't harass you about getting a subscription if you don't have one.
If you do buy a subscription, you get Smart alerts (pet, person, package, sound, smoke alarm, etc), versus just "motion detected" without subscription. You also get video clips backed up to the cloud with a subscription, but it's pretty basic features.
All in all, I think Wyze cams are the cheapest, most straightforward cams out there. Mine are pretty reliable. I think every system has it's quirks you just have to learn.
Edit: You can choose which cameras have the paid features, as in, you pay for the cameras you want to have it. Also interesting, you can change around which cameras have the extra features.
