How does a sound bar like this compare to using a receiver with low-medium quality speakers?
(asking because my very old onkyo receiver is almost dead, my speakers are very average, seeing receivers in the $300to $500 range, i have a 5.1 wired set up in a small living room, view point less than 13 feet from tv, and also interested in music + multi game consoles and pc connected to setup). I know it is a noob question, sorry. trying to get a feel for what makes more sense to do.... Thx
Yes. Q900C (7.1.4) is better as it is bigger sound bar with more channels and bigger sub. Can add open box 9500s rear speakers from Best Buy for around 80$ and make it 9.1.4. Q900C is available for $494.
Q910 has weaker rear speakers without atoms upfiring in rear speakers. Also, rears that comes with Q910C are wired and not wirless.
I feel Q800C for $373 is better than Q910C when combined with rear open box 9500s speakers.

I should have done more research. I bought the Q910C thinking it was better than the Q900C and I do not really plan to use the rear speakers, but I though oh for the same price ill just get the Q910C. Is it worth returning the Q910C and get the Q900C?

yes. Q900C is better compared to Q910C. In the future, you can add 9500s rear speakers if you need them.

I did the same thing. Bought 2 910s initially for 2 different rooms but didn't realize it was weaker than the 900c/990c. Ended up getting the 900c for one room (don't have space for rears) and 990c for the other.
Seems the better deal is to get q800c or q900c and add the wireless rears later. Ended up with the Q800C for $348 after a coupons. Looked at the Q900C, but the bar is too long for my space and Q800C was 30% cheaper.

I'd say yes
I got a Q900C for $471 after EPP and referral. There should also be some amount of cash back from a rack site.
Also, earlier today I got the SW9500 speakers Open Box - Excellent from BB. So I think I'm set for audio!
