For me, homedepot.com is showing regular price of $699.00 and sale price of $399.00. However, the store I purchased it at had 6 of these with yellow clearance tags of $199.00.

Brickseek [brickseek.com] shows me it is clearanced out at other locations as well.

Note: In-store availability and pricing varies by location. Also, clearanced self-propelled version might be in stock near you so look for it too.

In addition, this purchase is eligible for a free leaf blower shipped from Makita through their erebates program [makitatools.com].

I don't know how you are getting 94 lbs if the bare mower is 54lbs. It comes with 4 batteries and a double charger. I weighed 2 batteries together on my food scale and got a weight of 1lb 13oz so add that to your 54lbs.
I just tried out the mower. I can't test in high thick grass right now. Mostly sparse clover and wild flowers up high. I have some oak leaves on the ground though and I filled up the bag twice packed tight with leaves. I stlll have charge on those 2 batteries and it picked up leaves great.

I'm 59 with a bad back, arthritis, and a handicapped tag.and the mower rolled easy for me.

I have a completely flat yard ......self propelled is the best investment you can possibly make.
I bought an Ego brand with Self propel, I used it for a couple of weeks...I called Ego to ask about the poor cut (it left a ton of flags!) Their only response was to cut a half width pass! In other words DOUBLE MOW the yard. I returned the Ego to Home Depot...My understanding is that poor cut is endemic with all the battery mowers!!! Right now I am in process of buying a Honda (REFURB) for a high price, because I think I know what I will get. Amazon has a number of Honda refurbs on sale for $1,399.00 At least I beat that price, and I got a better mower than the one Amazon is scalping!

You might have had a defective Ego mower -- a friend of mine has one and loves it. He was a die hard Honda guy for a while, but after he got his Ego, he won't look back.

I personally use Ryobi mowers. I've now had two of their 40v mowers -- one 20" and now a 21" cross-cut (or whatever they're calling their double blade version) all wheel drive. I've had nothing but good luck with both, so far as the cut goes. I did have some issues on very overgrown thick/wet grass with the 20", where occasionally it'd bog down in one spot or another, and I'd have to back up / re-mow that bit, but I've never encountered that with the 21" I've got. Only bought the all-wheel-drive version because it was the same price as the rear-wheel-drive version at the time.

The 20" I've got works perfectly, as far as its cut goes (its self propel motor died, and the assembly to fix it is $180, so I haven't bothered). I also had to replace a plastic piece (it's the bit in the middle of the handles that has the clips that hold up the upper half of the handle). I've had that one for ~4 years with no other issues.

I've only had the 21" since summer of '23, so I can't say how reliable it'll be long term -- but, it's lift/suction is FAR better than the 20". I used to bag my front yard because the mulching on the 20" wasn't very good, and with that mower, I'd usually have to empty the bag 2-3 times. With the 21", the cut was so fine, I only had 1 1/2 bags. I actually started mulching the front yard when I saw that. Wink

Electric mowers require a sharp blade to perform well. Really sharp! That's ok if you're handy taking it off/on and have (and know how to use) a good quality mill bastard file. Only takes a few minutes, unless you've hit something like a rock, etc.

Mowers typically don't come from the factory this sharp, btw. If you're not into any of this, stick to a gas mower.

So my thoughts after using this mower for a couple hours, mostly just getting leaves bagged with it....
With other mowers I could always visibly see when the bag was full because the top of the bag would deflate because of lack of airflow pushing it up. With this mower it is picking up dry oak leaves amazingly well but I have to check the bag or notice leaves aren't getting picked up well and it packs them in TIGHT. One plus is the batteries are very easy to get in and out compared to Kobalt 80v.
I have had a self-propelled Honda gas mower and it was a trooper when running well. I did have to work on it a few times including changing the belt on the self-propel. I have a Kobalt 80v push mower, the original one it I love it. No issue with it but the rear wheels which I got them to send replacements. 5 year warranty on mower and 3 year warranty on the battery. Over 5 years now and still going strong. It cuts well through high thick grass. It is a bit lighter than this mower and a little easier to maneuver. I used to be fearful of plastic parts breaking because I am rough on it. Impressed.
I bought a newer model Kobalt 80v and it was self-propelled. They had it heavily discounted with a bigger battery. I hated it and ended up returning it. It would bog down and die on heavier grass and often missed a lot. In my opinion the self-propel was jerky and cumberson when having to go around bushes and such.
Everyone is different but for me, instead of paying for a gym membership and trying to make it to the gym, I prefer to get light exercise through things like walking behind a mower and pushing it. I'm happy this bags leaves so well because it is harder for me to bend down and such getting leaves up other ways. Anyway, just wanted to share my find since so many others have helped me save money. If you find one dirt cheap and don't like it, return it.
Edit: I feel this mower is more solidly built than the Kobalts but a little heavier as a result. I won't know until later this year how well it powers through thick grass and if it misses spots. I figured for the price it was worth the chance aa a backup and my wife can mow at the same time. lol

Battery life on Makita is pathetic. I have a leaf blower that runs on the same battery and barely lasts 10 min.
