Great CPU if you're using it for CPU intensive workloads, Gaming only would be better with a 5800X3d. The motherboard in this bundle is a bit of a mismatch. Would prefer to pair it with something that has a more substantial VRM setup. Advise going water cooled as well, a 280mm or bigger - excellent deals on the Arctic Freezer 2's and 3's on Amazon right now

I bit the bullet and got this one - have an X570 MB and DDR4 memory. I will take the existing 3700X CPU and pair it with the MB in this case.

Will a CM212 be enough cooling - I'm not looking to do water cooling.

Thermalright coolers on Amazon right now are great values. You can spend $40-$50 and get top tier air cooling.

I've managed to cool with a peerless assassin 120SE but under sustained loads I'd recommend a 280mm AIO. A 240 might just wing it but then better to opt for the cheaper air cooler (PS120SE)

You should be okay with the 212. Just make sure your firmware is somewhat up to date and just set up PBO for your 5800X3D. The Phantom Spirit is a great cooler but depending what case you have, it might be too big.

If you want to stick with Air cooling the 5950x, the Phantom Spirit 120 EVO [amazon.com] is a better option than the CM212. It'll handle the thermal output of the 5950x a lot better than the CM212, which is rather inadequate, and it much cheaper than the Noctua options.

*EDIT* If you meant that you went for the 5800X3D, then I'd recommend the Thermalright Peerless Assassin [amazon.com] or the new Peerless Assassin 120 Mini [amazon.com] if you want to take up less space. Those are less expensive than the Phantom Spirit, and still significantly better than the CM212 for about the same price.

I'm for one, hopefully will be a good upgrade for my UnRAID server. Anyone know any ECC ram that will work with this? Everything I find is 2Rx4?

You will need to check and make sure the motherboard supports ECC and the ram is compatible ECC (google the unraid forums for motherboard settings). I did the same with my unraid build and went with an asrock motherboard.

Currently have an i7-5820k with an MSI X99A raider (MS-7885) combo currently. Is this a worthwhile upgrade?

Massively faster at everything.

Upgraded my dad from that setup to an 10850k setup a couple years back, and this is faster than that and all PCIe 4 and all that.

You'd probably be better served with AM5 at this point but this is a lotta bang for the buck. And you can just pop in the DDR4. For now.

That said, you want at least DDR4 3200 with this for getting the most out of the CPU. Faster is better still but that seems like the place to start at least.
