NASA [nasa.gov] links to the American Astronomical Society [aas.org] for a list of North American solar film manufacturers that were approved to ISO 12312-2 and also for approved vendors of those solar filters.

"These include companies and organizations with which members of the AAS Solar Eclipse Task Force have had good experience as well as other companies and organizations that have demonstrated to our satisfaction that the products they're selling meet the safety requirements of the ISO 12312-2 international standard."

[Note: NASA and AAS both do not directly approve or certify any solar filter themselves. And as such there is no official NASA or AAS preferred solar filter. ISO certification from an American company is gonna be as good as you can get here.]

Daystar Filters, the filters sold on this B&H deal, are on the list of North American Manufacturers on the AAS website. And B&H is on the list of Authorized Dealers of Products Made in North America or Germany. 👍👍

Eye doc here, do me a favor and just don't stare at the sun.
During the last eclipse rush, the market was loaded with gray-market/fake-certified glasses. The American Astronomical Society publishes a list of certified vendors and vetted retailers for eclipse glasses.

So the question for you is - is it worth risking your permanent vision quality to save $5 from some random Amazon 3rd-party seller? Personally, I'd stick with B&H.
Correcting, there's a misconception that eclipses are particularly harmful, as if the light is worse than regular sunlight. That's not the case, the issue is that people are more apt to look/stare.

Welding glass/helmet/goggles works as well.

Okay, but does anyone actually care about the eclipse because I sure don't. All I hear about is people telling me that everyone cares, but I haven't had a single person come up to me and tell me how excited they are about the eclipse. This honestly just seems like some sort of big oil marketing ploy to sell more gas vehicles if you ask me.

I understand we're in a day and age of conspiracy theories getting dumber and dumber, but what were you going for with this one? Usually with a conspiracy theory, you need a little element of truth involved to make it sound believable.

I was planning to buy one of these but Tmobile has them for free today at their Tuesday app. Only a pair per account though.

I'd only go with ones from NASA

In that case you should only buy Lundt eclipse glasses. They are the only glasses produced by an actual astronomy company that makes solar telescopes for NASA. They are more expensive though.

You can get these glasses at most local libraries. I got them for my family and their friends.

here's a question, do binocs with poor transmission work to block enough of the rays or do they need to be fitted with filters? Do triple stacked sunglasses work?
no and no. please only use the purpose-built devices for protection while directly observing the sun. you only get one pair of eyes, make them last.

Michelin, having given up on the plan to sell more tires to people who go out of their way to visit fancy restaurants, is now drumming up fake eclipse hype in the hopes that steel belted radial sales will improve.

The signs are all there, bro. the signs are all there

Horse's mouth [nasa.gov]:

Viewing with Protection - Experts suggests that one widely available filter for safe solar viewing is welders glass of sufficiently high number. The only ones that are safe for direct viewing of the Sun with your eyes are those of Shade 12 or higher. These are much darker than the filters used for most kinds of welding. If you have an old welder's helmet around the house and are thinking of using it to view the Sun, make sure you know the filter's shade number. If it's less than 12 (and it probably is), don't even think about using it to look at the Sun. Many people find the Sun too bright even in a Shade 12 filter, and some find the Sun too dim in a Shade 14 filter — but Shade 13 filters are uncommon and can be hard to find.

Ive never seen a welders mask that was clear enough to see anything far away, let alone clean enough lol. I'd rather just watch it through a camera lens and screen or something along those lines. It's only a once in a lifetime event but I wouldn't bother relying on something so obscure.

Anything wrong with this 10pack from Amazon for $6.99? Puzcow Solar Eclipse Glasses Approved 2024 (10 Pack) CE and ISO Certified Solar Eclipse Observation Glasses https://a.co/d/2RPU2Ii
I recommend going to https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safet...rs-filters and looking for the name. The B&H glasses are Daystar which are an approved manufacturer. I cannot find "Puzcow" on the list.
