These frames are super mass produced under a variety of brand names, there is nothing particularly special about these frames. That being said I am a huge fan of these because they are actually repairable and upgradeable.. The standardized headset, BB, and Disc brakes make this IMO a solid buy at this price. If you want to upgrade you can get some Shimano hydraulic brakes for $40. If suspension is a concern you can throw on a $50-60 Suntour NCX suspension seatpost to help out there. Other than that I wouldn't touch much else.

If you have some mechanical inclination buy the H1 model for $50 less and throw a 9/10 Speed Shimano CUES on it for an extra $70-90.
After reading through countless shitty bike threads over the past few weeks, I think this might be the shitty bike for me.

That's true: if you want a wide-range rear cassette, you'll have to go up to 10 speed, or even 11 speed, which means replacing the entire drivetrain. In that case, you are correct that it doesn't matter what's on the bike already.

However, my thinking is that anyone ordering a $200 bike isn't in the market to spend another $100+ to get a few more gears. (Wide-range 10 and 11 speed cassettes are expensive, and if you buy a $27 Ebay off-brand Chinese cassette it'll usually come bent, shift terribly if at all, and weigh a ton.)

But if they get the 9-speed, they get a much better RD to start...and then they can get an LX or XT 9-speed shifter out of the parts box of any mountain biker who's been around for more than 7-8 years, probably for beer money. This will make a huge difference to shifting accuracy and feel. They can also probably get spare 9-speed chains for beer money, which is the first thing they'll have to replace, whether because they wore it out or (more likely) they left it outside in the rain a few times. Also the hydro brakes are nice for your average $200 bike rider who will never bother to adjust their mechanical discs.

Neither of us is objectively correct: it depends on the individual. But if I were advising my own friend, I'd advise the H2, because then I can fix or upgrade it with parts my riding buddies and I already have sitting around collecting dust. YMMV.

Quote from SensiblePartner277 :
I understand what you're saying, but this is how I think about it. Drivetrains made a huge leap in functionality when 10 speed became common, as far as clutch derailleurs and wide range cassettes, so this argument you make applies more to 10 spd vs 9 spd. If I were to upgrade the drivetrain on either the H1 or H2, the first thing I would do is change to a wider range cassette for easier climbing on steep hills, and your options for 8 or 9 spd are pretty limited either way. Also, using a wider range cassette is going to REQUIRE a longer chain, AND a rear derailleur with more range capacity, AND therefore also a new shifter. So basically you have to swap out the WHOLE drivetrain anyways, so you might as well save the money initially with the H1, unless you really want the hydraulic brakes. For a mountain bike, I would absolutely want hydraulic brakes, but for a road bike, it's not that important to me. Plus, hydraulic brakes can be a PITA if you hang your bike up vertically, like on a wall hanger, because it can introduce an air pocket into the brake line. Back to drivetrains, I think the cheapest way to improve the drivetrain would be to do Microshift Acolyte 8 spd, then Microshift Advent 9 speed, then Advent X 10 spd (as far as costs go). Again, any of those options are going to require you to change out the whole system.

I just took the H1 for a ride on my 16 mile road loop. Completely stock everything (even pedals), plus my usual loadout of bottle cage; 20oz bottle; saddle bag with spare tube, multitool, chain link; and hand pump. The bike performed well, no issues. The shifting is actually very crisp. I spent most of my ride in the middle and high gears (on my road bike during this same route, I stay in the big 50t chainring and run through most of the range of the 11-32 cassette). I ordered the H1 in size medium because it's for my wife and son, but I can make it work for me at 6'3". If it were just my bike, I would slide the saddle back a little more and swap to a 90mm stem with more rise and I'd be good to go.

Lightly assembled my x2 H2s. No damage. One box was a bit beat up (thanks FedEx - i saw it laying in an odd position when they opened back of truck). Bikes seem fine. Brakes rubbing on front tires. More so on the women's bike. Male bike - there is a brake cable that rubs the tread of the tire. I think a previous post mentioned that also. I see no way around that.

Waiting in kickstands... and water cages.

I will be removing all the plastic clips that hold the external wiring with zip ties i think. Not impressed with that. I am in shock with how light these bikes are.

I am 6'1 - 6'2... Maybe should have went with the large per sizing chart instead of XL. Bar between legs is a wee bit close to the goods when standing flat foot off seat. It will be ok --- but heads up to others. Not sure if L would lower that?

Beautiful colors.

I shared a kickstand link in a previous post. Noticed my Trek has a "Greenfield" kickstand on it. Gonna go with that again vs random amazon brand I shared.

Besides break rubbing, and my male bike brakeline oddly rubbing. These are fantastic.

Granted - didnt ride them yet Smilie

Anyone know what the two black plastic screw caps are for that came with each bike?

I seem to be missing one of these plastic caps also.

What about the clear flexible plastic piece that came with each bike? No clue what that is for either.

For the guys who received their bikes already, can you post pictures?

Would love to get a better sense of how they look since online pics/vids are very limited.

Not sure how to share a pic. The woman's H2 is a matte blue/teal. Wife loves it Mens H2 is a matte red. Both almost have a bit of a metallic look to them - but matte. U wont be disappointed.

I'll send u a message. Apparently its thumbs down to talk about Kickstands. Lol. Also H2 owners... The seat post shaft that the seat inserts into is 31 - 32 mm. Look on Amazon - u can find 31.8 mm quick release seat adjusters vs having to have an allen wrench for quick adjustments.

I bought a medium H1 for a woman and I want her to have a kickstand too. I was thinking a non-adjustable all metal one would be better. I don't know how long it has to be. I want to fully outfit it for her.

Careful. May get a thumbs down. Look on Amazon for the brand "Greenfield". I got the 305 silver. They make some for bikes "with plate" some without. H2 has a plate

I am going to return my adjustable ones when they show up... Just seems like more to go wrong.

Great, Thank You. I know she won't want to lay her bike down and scratch it so they can thumbs down me if they want. She will only use it for short trips anyways so the weight is no big deal.

I got my H2 today. It does have hydraulic brakes, and it's not a bad bike. The tires seem cheap, but functional. Setup was pretty straightforward, it feels a little loose, so I need to go through everything before I take it on a real ride.

Did u figure out what the small plastic rubber caps were for? About the size of a screw head. I think they were in a bag near the handle bars? One H2 came with 2 of them. The other H2 I got i could only find one.

Thoughts on what the clear rubber strip was for? Package with pedals and reflectors?

Received my H1 yesterday. Condition of the bike was excellent. No damage from shipping or packaging. Finished installation/tuning this morning and just got back from bedding brakes.

INSTALLATION NOTES:
1) Both rotors had 2 noticeably loose bolts. Each were only about half way in and were not sitting flush to the rotors.
2) The front brake cable rubs the front tire. There is already a cable tie mid-way up the fork, but I will need to zip tie another higher up to stop it rubbing when turning.
3) Derailleur would not shift to lowest gear. I had to undo the cable from the derailleur & manually adjusted the H & L screws. It now shifts well.
4) Both brakes rubbed. Had to loosen caliper, spin, brake, tighten a couple times both ends. Then had to bend both rotors slightly.

GENERAL NOTES:
1) Bike is really light. I have a medium and is super easy to pickup move around.
2) Brakes still seem to not be up to snuff. It could just be I need to bed them more, but noticeably more effort is needed to brake compared to the hydraulic brakes on my MTB. Couldn't do a stoppie since the wheel just kept turning.
3) The low gear seems adequate for hilly terrain.
4) Both wheels and/or tires are slightly wobbly. I have not diagnosed this yet.

CONCERNS:
Front fork/headset seems to be loose. If I hold onto the front brake and move forward/back a little I can hear a slight knocking. I tightened the headset bolt and still kind of there. The other really strange part is if I drop the bike, the front vibrates almost like a tuning fork for a couple seconds. I'm not used to having a rigid fork, so maybe this is normal?

Overall, I'm still happy with the bike. It's light, peddles well, and I like the look. For $160 seems like a solid deal.

My H2 had a cable rubbing the tire also. Take a look at the photo online. For the H2 - I was able to see I had one of the cables wrong. Took off the tire, and bars... Re-routed cable to copy photo. Seems ok now. It's easier to see in the H2 photo. These cable clamps need to go. Will be using black zip ties once I get things settled.

Those black plastic caps could be the brake cable end cap. Since the H2 have hydraulic brake, they have become the extra part.

Just an update since I've received the H1 bike. I've ordered from aliexpress a Shimano Cues 10 speed groupset (cassette, rear derailleur, chain, shifter), a 27.2 Suntour NCX suspension seatpost, and I also ordered a new 32 tooth 165mm square taper crankset. The other chainring/crankset is 170mm, with a cheap chainring. This should be better for a shorter person and also easier to climb hills. Cheap chainring was 38 teeth. Will let you know how it all works out. These cost more than the bike, but I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.

Pretty sure that the clear rubber strip is supposed to go on the inside of the front white reflector cuff so that it doesn't damage the handlebar. The manual actually mentions it in that section I think as a "sizing strip" or something similar.
