Have one of these that I use to dual boot libreelec and batocera
Libreelec also runs a Jellyfin transcoding server that I use to watch stuff afar, and it can playback literally anything you throw at it
Batocera can emulate anything- this is a very powerful machine that doesn't really skip a beat, all the way up to as far as I've tested is original xbox games
Bought the barebones and put 32gb of ram in it, a 512gb m2 for libreelec because the files are hosted on a NAS, and a 256gb SSD for batocera- bigger file games are also hosted on the NAS
As far as the fan noise- during playback of video, it's silent. During emulation, it will be noticeable, but isn't horrible. During trancodes, again, noticible but not bad. I also have it right next to me in the room, so if I were to put it in a cabinet below the tv, it probably would be unnoticeable completely.
What I had before was an ATOPNUC 1135G7- does the trick, but I really wanted something super powerful- this was it, and this thing doesn't quit.
Also to clarify, I have the NAB6, not 9
So, I use this to run my main server farm at home (the NAB6). That dual port 2.5gbe sold me instantly, since I like to have Hyper-V running 10 different VMs, and they can all share that pipe with a virtual switch, while the OS gets its own pipe, which is important, cause...
I'm using a special 3D printed lid for the NAB6 that allows for the M.2 slot to be used with an adapter to a PCIE slot. I've got 8 hard drives hooked up. Seriously, you've gotta give this a look:
I love this little box - I've ran it 24/7 for 10 months.
Does not have throttling and in fact performs better than most of the laptops with same Processor, especially in sustained load, due to bigger and taller Cooler with a lot of heatsink and heatpipes. Regarding the Noise level, in idle or normal workload, they are pretty much silent (fan spins but at very low RPM). In full all core sustained load, you will hear the fan but that is far lesser than any gaming laptops having same load.

Anybody use this? What's the amount of throttling and noise on it?

Buying this to replace an Intel NUC that has mysteriously begun powering down in the middle of running ESXi. It looks to support the same RAM, NVMe, and SSD disks, so should only require swapping those.
Is this a good option to replace my QNAP NAS? I'm pretty sick of the QNAP software and it seems a lot of things never work like they're supposed to.
This has very limited internal hard drive space. Just one M2 and one 2.5 inch space. You could get another external USB array to attach to it which could work but may not b be what you are looking for.
More I/O, the 2.5gbe Nic's, etc. If you need the I/O and bandwidth, then this is better. You would need to know that up front, and are probably not looking at this if that's the case since enterprise gear off eBay and self-builds can assist those functions

Quiet, low power, great for emulation, and you can run multiple OS on them. Having window and Linux on a machine is very nice to have.
A common issue is the lack of bios updates. Definitely not a deal breaker but just the main complaint I see online.
