I checked and didn't see this posted. 64GB is $89, the 128GB is $109. No tax and free shipping. You need to have an AAFES acct which is military and civil service employees.

These latest 3rd gen 4K models come on a specific tvOS version (16.6) that is compatible with a software called TrollStore, which is essentially unlimited sideloading. I've loaded a few streaming apps on mine and it's awesome! Very rare these days to see anything jailbreak-esk available on current hardware much less from the factory! And for $100, this is a better streamer than my Fire Stick 4K (obviously) but also personally more enjoyable than I think an Nvidia shield would be. For me, all the ATV was missing was sideloading. I'm into the Apple ecosystem pretty deep too so this is the ultimate streaming machine for me.
Sideloading = installing an app without going through an "official" app store like the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Trollstore = an unofficial app store that allows you to install apps that are not in the Apple App Store.

There's usually a lot of tutorials for these things on YouTube or Reddit

Update. I bought a $25.99 shipped USB-C Siri Remote on eBay that the seller said was tested and full working condition. I can sell the dodgy Lightning updated Siri Remote or a 2nd the dreadful black Apple touchpad remote.

Nice! I haven't yet swapped the TVs out. Life just gets in the way sometimes.

Got my Apple TV 4K in the mail. iOS came in at 17.2. Am I screwed? There's no way to downgrade, is there?

Wow that's unfortunate. Apple makes it difficult to sideload, but there are a couple third party solutions that make it palatable.

You have a couple of options. You can use a signing platform like AppDB (appdb.to) and link your Apple TV. I have used this service for years when I was without a jailbreak. Was always very reliable for me. AppDB will be by far the easiest way to sideload and manage apps since you can do it all by web browser on another device. AppDB is best paired with services like UDIDRegistrations which use Enterprise developer certificates to sign apps for an entire year. Costs about $12 USD for the Gold tier, which is what I would use. AppDB can import accounts from UDIDRegistrations so it's easy to setup.

And other than that, for free, you can use Sideloadly (first you'll have to link your ATV using Xcode on a mac) and your own personal Apple ID to sign apps, but this is highly inconvenient for most people because free accounts can only sideload 3 apps for 7 days without having to refresh the registration. I have not used this approach on an Apple TV because it seems very tedious.

What is sideloading used for? I just watch iTunes and my infuse app where I have cartoons and such downloaded. Can't see much appeal for much else

There are a couple streaming apps that use—methods—to provide 4K media for very low prices. They are obviously not in the App Store, so sideloading is the only way. Look up the Streamer app on GitHub. Very popular. Really not much reason outside of that except for some cool apps that are no longer in the App Store like Minecraft for Apple TV.

wow dude! fantastic tip. Sideloading is such a basic thing I'm used to on GoogleTV etc. and used to have the old AppleTV when XBMC worked best.. been missing any kind of usercontrol on the apple HW.

How about a SmartTube equivalent?

https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube

and maybe a Cast app , that let's you cast from non-apple devices ? The apple HW tends to waaay better than all the googleTV HW.
