    Can't say anything specific about this pump, but I've had good luck evacuating ac systems on my cars with a similar type of pump. However, refilling is a bit of a guessing game with pressures and canisters. I've never found a good method of weighing partial canisters due to hoses being connected to them while trying to get a measurement. Keep that in mind, and I think diy ac repairs are definitely feasible.

    So true. I do it like Eric the car guy by getting to the right pressures and test the temperature at the vent. As Yoda would say "guessing do I".

    The 3.5 and 4.5 CFM models are also on sale for just $63 and $75. According to the label on the pumps, the ultimate vacuum is 3x10^-1 Pa (aka 0.3 Pa) for the 5 CFM model and 5 Pa for the others.

    Pretty good deal on a generic pump but if you want this to use with a vacuum chamber, you're still probably better off looking for a bundle with hoses, connectors, etc.

    seems like it would be easier to use something like a luggage/fish weigher and hang the tank from something to get the weight change. i agree, having it sit on a scale is annoying due to hoses and other things.
