Nobody charges 0% or 10% to full every night. I only did that 2 times in the last 5 years. All other times we just need to top up 30-50% of the battery.
Yes. 5-15 is the standard household receptacle.
I'm not seeing anywhere that it's UL listed / safety certified. That doesn't mean that it's unsafe, but if you're planning on using it for regular charging I'd recommend spending more for an EVSE / EV charger that is. Saving money is great, but these things use a lot of power and cheap ones can melt or even burn down a house.
Check out the YouTube channel State of Charge for videos that discuss the risk and review level 1-2 EVSE / EV Chargers.

But Dig is a horrible company now. They tried to sell me a refurbished monitor and advertised it as new

The main reason these type of dual level EVSEs don't go for UL listing is they use generic adapters to support 120V and 240V plugs. If they used proprietary adapters like Webasto does, then the chance of misusing the adapters for other devices is eliminated but it costs more. Otherwise, the EVSE itself is a very simple device. A J1772 control board, relay, GFCI, enclosure and cables.

See above comment about burning your house down with dryer outlet. This pulls 32A at level 2 and only seems to have an adapter for 50A plug

Code would only allow that if hardwired dip switches, I don't see that anywhere. trusting someone to limit on software or car everytime is foolish . and even though it says adjustable 8-32 it does not list increments

Question. Can the plug be cut off and unit hardwired? Or is that a no no?

Seems like a great deal for $119. Not sure I'd use this as my main connector (I have a Tesla Wall Connector for that), but would be good to throw this $119 connector in the trunk for emergency charging.

Has a nice case also. Seems like a no-brainer if you need a cheap emergency backup or spare.

It is not about 4 or 5 hours. It is about 8 hours or 10 hours or 11 hours. 40 amg is almost a must if you want to only charge it overnight (8~10 hours). 32 AMG means 11 hours. Model Y battery size is 75 kwh to 82 kwh. 220V * 40 A = 8.8 kwh * 0.91 = 8.2 kwh, so from 10% to 100%, it could easily take 10 hours.

Also, if you dont get 11 hours to be home per day.... Eeek. I mean, even if you get home from work at 7pm, and leave at 6am, that's 11 hours right there.

I work from home, so I know I'm on one end of the spectrum... But if you are spending a majority of your day at work.... Then I guess you're right, go with a 40amp.

I know people will throw stones at me... But I charge off of a 120v outlet..... I rent , so don't feel the need to pay to add 240v in someone else's house/garage, (plus, during the week, I'm home pretty much 18-22 hours hours a day)

Will this fit the Dryer plug? Or will i have to install a new outlet to use the Level 2 charging?
Dryer plugs are not meant to be plugged in-and-out. You plug the Dryer in once, then maybe 10 years later when you change the Dryer, you unplug it again.

If you are now going to be constantly plugging in the Mobile Connector, unplugging, re-plugging the Dryer, back-and-forth, then you are going to wind up melting/burning that receptacle.

If you use the Dryer plug. I would at least recommend replacing the Dryer receptacle with a heavy duty industrial grade receptacle. Because your Dryer probably has some cheap 9 dollar Home Depot receptacle. Which is fine for a Dryer that is never unplugged. But with a Mobile connector that is constantly plugged and unplugged, it is an accident waiting to happen.

It lists the current increments on their website. (8A/10A/13A/16A/20A/ 24A/32A)

I went for the Tesla model wall charger and do not regret it. Great quality and I would not risk charging my car with one of these off brand version chargers just to save a couple bucks.

My 2 cents!

Not sure about all the numbers and math you provided but I commute 160-180 miles a day in a 2024 Model Y. I normally get home with about 35-40%. I plug in when I get home 6PM and have it scheduled to start charging at 12:01AM. When I wake up at 7AM my car is fully charged. According to the Tesla app it charges for 2-3hrs a night. I am using the original Tesla wall mount charger. Hope this helps someone.

The Tesla app and the car can set its own amperage. I use a 32A dryer outlet and just tell the car to pull 24A and have never had an issue.

Teslas also remember the amperage at their location so it always only ever tries to pull 24A at the house and never more than that.
thanks, thinking dryer plug will be my best option where I am for now. Been reading about it and thinking of getting the new equinox ev this fall using only dryer plug to charge at home. You have any other relevant wisdom to share on the option? ty friend.

Not sure who this is for... in fact i dont think anyone should get this.
This is really just a charge cord that happens to come with the nacs plug, but you dont want this in either case.
If non tesla anything like this is cheaper -
https://www.ebay.com/itm/256370637886
Granted difference from 32a to 40a is not great, but it will be faster.
if tesla, a refurb or used like new wall mount is the way to go,48a is absolutely worth it

With L2 charge, efficiency is more than 95% with my Tesla.

The calculation is that the 48A charger draws 11.7kW and battery takes 11.17 kWh per hour. DC charge efficiency is even higher, maybe close to 100%.
