Samsung TVs have gone seriously downhill in the past 3-4 years. Looks like Sony has taken the crown from them in terms of AI upscaling and quality. This particular model is pretty much competing with the cheap crappy chinese tvs from TCL and Hisense and even on that front it loses as those TVs have better specs.
Samsung cheap TV has always been crap. I bought one 20 years ago for $2400, and it still has bright colors and is currently still using it. The $700 I bought 5 years ago is dying.
The Chinese less name brands are just getting better every year. Some brands were garbage 10 years ago, some brands are still garbage 5 years ago, and some brands are still garbage now.
I was waiting for the hisense dual layers screen. They came out with only 1 tv and stopped making them. I think it was about $2k-3k. Super cheap compared to the $20-50k smaller Sony monitor. Some guy built a smaller screen himself for a few hundred dollars ?diyperk?
Smart move. The power board will eventually go out soon. I had a qled Samsung and it was doing the same thing. One last crackle and pop, I can no longer turn it on
All sarcasm aside these are really not worth it at $350ea. Mine has horrible viewing angles, and can't get close to bright enough for a moderately lit room. I wish I would have got it from Costco as return may have been possible.
Even some commercial panels require wifi to setup for the first time. Maybe that wifi requirement is fine at most people's homes, but in some environments, it's totally plausible there's the TV is airgapped. Such as being used in a garage or cabin without network connectivity of any kind.
A friend's TV that's "smart" gave a massive popup the other day, saying pretty much "AGREE TO THESE NEW TERMS OR ELSE". Turns out they were forcing broad-reaching arbitration and a few more data collection policies. She could not "refuse" said agreement. So if you ever wanted to sue that company, you can't -- even if it wasn't related to the TV. This is the world we live in now, apparently.
I've started buying a few spare older TVs at yard sales & estate sales. For $20-50, I can get a perfectly usable 1080p display that doesn't need anything more than an HDMI cable.
They're usually much more expensive than consumer TVs (likely because smaller market size and no advertising subsidy on the cost), but the modern equivalent is digital signage or conference room displays.
I've had older samsung tvs in the past and they were great. Bought one when we got our new house. It died 13 months in. Warranty was 12 months and they basically said FU. They would cover the parts, but after getting a quote, the repair still costs more than the tv...
After reading up a bunch, samsung quality isn't what it one was. Sprung for an lg oled and couldn't be happier. I'm avoiding samsung like the plague from now on.

No, even THOSE need to initially setup via Wifi anymore. It's getting ridiculous.
That fact doesn't matter, though, because you'll just complain about how expensive they are or that they don't have some arbitrary feature.
You can't have it both ways. Either the TV is cheap because it has subsidization or you pay for the subsidies.
However, you're also embellishing greatly (some would even say BSing) on these smart features. There's not a single internet setup process that can't be skipped either through a button or alternative procedure.
Moreover, even the cheapest Roku TV from Walmart allows you to set the default input source. The same can be said for Android TV, WebOS, and Tizen.
If you haven't found it, it's because you haven't been looking.
Here's the thing -- several of these "large format displays", conference/retail signage are forcing Wifi for initial setup. Didn't used to be this way, but how else can these companies force you to agree to arbitration in perpetuity if they don't have you agree to their terms?
I don't mind paying. I literally hunt yard sales for older TVs, that's how I value my "time". Those 10+ year old TVs lack all the new "features", but they work for what we need. Most of those features are bunk anyways.
And I asked my friend, she said it was actually one of those ROKU tvs you so passionately shilled just now! So yeah, I totally believe what you're saying now. lol.
It was a q60. I also have a q70 that I bought the same time. That one is still going strong with no issues. Just draw of the luck really. If you see any signs of issues within your return period, return it.

Shilled?
You're clearly a troll.
I'm just pointing out how wrong you are by the fact that even the cheapest subsidized TVs aren't as militarized as your lies would claim.
Typical boomer behavior to fabricate problems out of nowhere and then point fingers when a solution isn't presented to you on a silver platter.

May I ask which model? I was looking at a q70.

My cousin got 1 for $20 and a bee jay from a guy behind the abandoned K Mart

So, what's that again about being a shill? Please, tell me. I'm all ears.
