And the included Dirac Live does manage bass. According to Dirac Support:
"Yes, standard Dirac Live has always corrected the subwoofer response, taking advantage of the AVR's Bass Management."

Found of these open box ( excellent condition complete) at a Best Buy outlet for $550
I have to say VERY impressed for a midrange receiver.

Even in a smaller room with some bookshelf and satellite old Mirage speakers Dirac RC sounds good.
Been using this receiver since it was first released. It's been amazing in my dedicated home theater. I'm running 11 speakers and a sub off of it (with a 3 channel amp). I wouldn't even call this a mid range receiver. It's more high end.

The amplifier is suspect. [audiosciencereview.com] So I picked up a Topping PA7 (used on Amazon for $260) to run the fronts. Sounds fantastic.
ASR measures things most people will never notice. Not saying you did anything wrong if you do notice such things or it was just important to you to address. A lack of sustained power, for example, will almost never be detectable in a home theater situation.

I hope Amazon sees that & lowers the price. It's a bummer that Amazon doesn't price match.

I dont think I have seen an AVR under $2500 MSRP that could pass the ASR tests
For reference the Denon X3800 failed the ASR tests as well

Awesome receiver. I am running a 5.1 setup with a pair of emotiva t2+, monoprice center, surrounds and rsl 10s mk2. The built-in Dirac makes it an excellent value.

I bet! the RZ70 is a great receiver. I'm jealous of the recent firmware update that enables you to turn off the front 3 channels of the amp section if using the pre-outs.

But $2,800 is a tough pill to swallow for some.

That's why I went with the RZ50 with an external amp instead Wink

To add clarification it lets you turn off L/R fronts OR all of them.

There have been some Denons that tested well, to be fair, but most don't and still sound great. I stopped caring/reading because all the other variables are more meaningful to me. Speakers are huge sources of distortion and it turns out they're a pretty big part of audio systems.

The Denon X4800 passed ...but frankly if you read the review it seems like it barely did

From personal ownership of Denon, Marantz, Yamaha etc I think they sound the same with no room correction engaged
With room correction engaged( if they use different types) I will say I can hear differences

Years ago when Onkyo used Audyseey XT32, I went from an Onkyo pre pro to a Marantz pre pro and could tell no differences in the sound between the two.

Yes...speakers are a very different animal and there are better( and highly subjective) choices for the people that are more movie focused and those that are more music focused.

I would have to agree.

People bring up these variables that the RZ70 has or updated over this.

The current Denon's already have them and more for less.
The 3800 got down to $899 and offers more variables than this.

Not an apples to apples comparison.
The true price of the 3800, even at the low $899 price, is actually $1,250 after adding Dirac, $250 more than the RZ50.

the current street price for the denon 3800 is $1699, then add $349 for the Dirac full bandwidth and another $100 for the calibration mic (Denon does not include it) bringing the total to about $2150 vs $999 for the Onkyo.

should you want the multi-sub bass control module license add another $499 to the denon price (Not available on RZ50, but is available on the RZ70).

Agreed...and you also have to buy the correct calibration mic for Dirac for the Denon.
So the difference is really $300-350 more.

If a few hundred more dollars is not an issue over that then I say buy the RZ70 which has been $1800 ish.
That unit is more comparable to the Denon X6800 . In fact the RZ70 has the same DACs and
comes very close in amp bench testing to the $6500 Denon A1H .
