iams is generally considered the best budget dog food from my research. Purina ONE (Not regular Purina, I didn't even know regular purina was a thing) is generally the second best budget dog food. Then on there's Hill, Royal Canin, Blue Buffalo as well on the expensive side.
Of course know your dog's nutritional needs blah blah blah but I would not trust anything cheaper per lb than iams
If you're serious about your dogs health and extending their life you want to feed raw. If you're interested in how to make it PM me and I'll share the recipe. It'll take me a couple of weeks to reply since we're vacationing in Pacific NW after participating in last weekend Bremerton WA dog show. We've got six dogs, four of them current of previous AKC show dogs, three grand champions and one champion still being finished. (the other two are mutts). They all eat home-made raw.
Anyone reading this, take your dog to your vet instead of trusting random stranger to give your dog food advice. Different dogs have different food needs.

This message brought to you by Purina. Does are descendants of wolves. They're built to eat meat. Not grain-filled kibble. Check with your vet. They'll say something similar.

No I won't. I never recommend raw diets of anytype and none of my colleagues that I am aware recommend it either.

I would rather hear about the "mutts". It's a shame you seem to discount them. Like a parent who holds up one kid who graduated college and shoves the HS dropout into the corner and tries to hide them in shame.

Dogs are far separated from wolves that they don't share the same diet needs. But if you want to go that route, even captivated rescue wolves get fed portion of kibbles due to the nutrients it provides and they've been seen to live longer lives.
