I have the offer on my Citi Custom Cash.

If you buy a $500 VISA gift card, it works out to 4.82% return.
$25 (= $500 x 5%) + $0.06 (= $5.95 x 1%) + $5 (this Merchant Offer) - $5.95 (activation fee) = $24.11
$24.11 ÷ $500 = 4.82%

If you buy $500 in gift cards, it works out to 6% return.
$25 + $5 = $30
$30 ÷ $500 = 6%

Custom Cash is already 5 percent off for supermarkets. This WD offer is another 5 percent back up to $5 maximum. I can't say that I understand your math.

Max rebate is $5 on $100 spend. Spend $100 get $10 back.
