Too low? EDIT: Okay, yes it appears most say 12GB is too low for 4k gaming.

My RTX 2070 with 8GB died yesterday and I'm looking to replace it with a 4070. I don't think I need the TI version though. Why is this a new Amazon listing? New color or something?

Unless you absolutely need the dual encoding engines in the 4070ti and up, and can't afford the 4070 ti super, you'd be much better off getting a 4070 super on sale for ~$570 or less (assuming you want to stick with nvidia, and realistically I wouldn't recommend the 4070 super over $550). Alternatively, if you need something higher end than a 4070 super and want a nvidia card, skip straight to the 4070 ti super 16gb. It's still a very poor value, but at least then you'll get a card that will be viable for more than a couple of years. If you're willing to go with an amd card just get the 7900 gre at ~$540 and overclock the memory. Unless the 4070 ti drops to somewhere around $600 it's just flat out not worth buying, and even then the value proposition is poor. The 12gb of vram is a major limiting factor both for gaming and the productivity/ai workloads someone would purchase a high tier nvidia card for.

Cheap cell phones have more ram than this and they are enclosed in small form factors lol. $700 for 12gb in 2024 is like throwing money away. You won't even be able to load games in a few years and again you're paying $700.

Thanks for the info. I was close to purchasing a 4070 Ti Super for $799, it was one of the ASUS variants.

My 2080 recently died and I was thinking of picking something up from hardwareswaps on Reddit to tide me over until the 5000 series.

What are your thoughts on the 5000 series? Do you think they will have better value proposition than the 4000 series (or at least the high end ones)?

It's absurd. They want us to believe this is their upper mid tier card.

The video card industry is full of gimmicks from both companies. The differences is rarely noticeable and every person that has bought a card for the past decade would know this

Nice find. Definitely the cheapest deal I have seen in the last few weeks. Ended up pulling the trigger as I've been looking to upgrade my 2070 super. I was torn between this and spending the extra money towards a 4070 ti super; Dell cashback + chase puts it at $80 more or so but it looks like it might only be about a 5% increase in performance. I need my card for video editing as well as triple monitor sim racing (1440p); thoughts on if the extra memory (12 vs 16 gb) is worth the money for the ti super?

As someone with a 3060Ti in a secondary PC for downstairs, 8GB is definitely under-spec now, even for 1080p Ultra in some AAA games (newest Forza for one). I second everyone else, 12GB will be under-spec soon and 16GB is really needed unless you want to buy again in a couple years.

All of that only really applies if you want to run at Ultra settings. Of course the more you lower the settings, the less the RAM needed.

Everyone complaining about vram but you're going to enable DLSS anyway lol. 12GB is more than enough for 4k ultra settings with DLSS enabled. It's impossible to run modern AAA games on 4k ultra settings without DLSS and get a steady 60fps. Even the 4090 struggles with cyberpunk on 4k ultra without DLSS. I currently have a 4070 and playing Alan Wake 2 on 4k ultra with DLSS and getting 80-100 fps. This is more than acceptable. If you want a true 4k card, wait for 5090.

What is the equivalent of this card in the AMD line? Is it better to have a monitor with AMD freesync or Nvidia with DSS?

The 7900 GRE with the overclock or the 7900XT.

Sad thing is, people are willing to pay these ridiculous prices. I am holding on to my 1080ti as long as I can or until the 7900 GRE drops to around $450.
