FireOS remaps the start/menu button on external controllers at an OS level, making any game that uses the start button not work correctly. If you're using the touchscreen though, you'll be fine.

I would recommend looking elsewhere for a tablet due to the lack of the Google play store, however if 90% of what you do is watch movies, you'll only be disappointed 10% of the time. The fire tablet is a laminated 16:10 IPS display with Widevine L1 Certification, which beats out most of the competitors in the budget space for video viewing:
-The base iPad is a non-laminated 4:3 ratio, so 16:9 content will have a smaller viewing area with an air gap
-Samsung Budget Tablet A series uses a TFT LCD screen with worse color and viewing angles
-Walmart's Onn tablets do not have Widevine L1 Certification, which means you can't stream HD content with many apps.
However Fire OS cripples the experience elsewhere:
-Installing the Google play store is possible, but amazon actively tries to stop it. Currently I have the Google play store installed, but push notifications don't work for most for most of apps installed through the play store.
-Game controllers have the menu/start button remapped at an OS level, so some game streaming and emulation won't work correctly, like Xbox Game Pass.
-Without Google play store, YouTube is only available through a limited but serviceable unofficial app, and YouTube Kids is not available at all.
