Is it the PHS930YPFS or PHS93XYPFS model? I was looking at the first one since I cannot justify paying $1k more for a inside camera. Where did you purchase it from and how much was it? How much do you use it on a weekly basis (days/times)? Just trying to gauge this because I worry about the glass breaking since we cook so much.
It was PHS930YPFS. I got in on sale at Costco for around 2600 I believe. I use it probably twice a day on average. Haven't cracked the glass at all, but I'm also very careful about placing things down on it. Also have silicone mats for the burners, though it does make the process a little less efficient.

Thanks. That is the one I am looking at getting, but again, we cook a lot so my only worry is cracking the glass somehow.

I don't like cooking on induction, and regret buying it. Nothing at all to do with cookware, since I use those fancypants carbon steel (love) pans as well as cast iron...I just don't like the lack of precise control. I find I have to cook hotter, and simply pull the pan more frequently to maintain a nice temp for the given task, MUCH more so than using gas. It also doesn't seem to do well for stir-fry on my carbon steel wok (the whole wok doesn't really heat up, just the bottom), and delicate things like omelets are hit and miss. Gas if FAR superior...I miss it daily.

Good input. Thanks. If I go induction, I would need a 240v, 50amp outlet run which will be $1200 to $1500 and then the actual 30" induction range (GE Profile is $2900). Also probably the addition pots and pans that would need to be bought. And cracking the glass.

Wonder if I should stick to gas?

I can totally see how induction has gained popularity...easy, fume free, efficient heating, and can boil water almost as fast as a dedicated kettle. Indeed, the reviews before buying rave about how fast it boils water. So...it boils water fast. Well, I don't eat a bunch of Mac and Cheese, or pasta in general, so I don't need to boil water much at all, but I can see how a busy mom/dad would find this appealing. I just don't find the steps (it pulses electromagnetic energy) granular enough at this point to adjust to my needs, like gas does. You get a feel for the btu's gas is producing, largely from the dial and watching the flame and response to what your cooking. This is disrupted using induction, and you find yourself reacting and coaxing the heat more during cooking, and I don't find that a pleasure. I suppose if you 'cook' pasta in a hurry, this is a great tool. If you cook for pleasure and creativity, I'd stick with gas by a long shot. Perhaps if they bring in PID control so one could accurately dial in a specific temperature for induction, but even then it would only be on par with gas for my needs.

I'd keep gas till they threaten to arrest.

Then its time to vote them out. Smilie

Seriously, buy a cheap induction hob on amazon, and give it a try before committing to a huge expensive appliance like this. Sadly, I moved away from natural gas (not available in my new town), and this seemed like a good decision, but I regret losing gas daily.

Still in the process but after chatting to several appliance repair people I've narrowed it to GE or Frigidaire induction. Ideally would get Bosch or Miele but too pricey.

I've heard that GE and Frigidaire are more reliable. We just replaced our range with Frigidaire Pro (gas). The pro competes with Vikings of the world and less fluff (like using touchscreens). We need just high btu and no learning curve.

Are you saying you have the Samsung model NE63T8911SS and are having issues? If so, how long after did the issues start?

I talked to some repair techs. He laughed when I questioned him about frigidaire... Said they are bottom barrel of appliances. So is Samsung. LG has the least failure rates, with GE upper line a bit worse than LG.
