I know this might be pointless for some, but Menards has the same saw at the same price as Amazon +11% mail-in rebate, bringing the price down to $266.11.

I have this saw and it is not that great honestly. The warranty is great and I replaced mine but the new saw has exactly the same problems
1) the break stopped working as it worked when new - sometimes it is working fine, sometimes it doesn't work at all, sometimes it works like 5 seconds later
2) the weight of the sliding thing gets stiff at some time and you literally have to put a lot of lubrication. Something gets off because when I pull the saw little bit up from the slider, it slides smoothly

I 3 saws - this one, dewalt and ryobi. I think it is the best from all of them and for this price you can't get anything better. As a hobbyist I can't justify festool or bosch :/
It's better than a Dewalt, but "it is not that great honestly"? What rinky dink Dewalt miter saw do you have that you're stacking it up against?

I got dewalt from a contractor, abuser tool. I sold it because I wanted something better for more fine woodworking and this saw was on sale at Lowe's a few years ago.

I have the predecessor of this saw by Hitachi. Great saw. Plenty power to cut through just about anything. The included 60 tooth blade is very good. I am still using it after 4 years. Its best feature is the separate left and right fences. You can adjust them dead square against the blade. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WNySpRCRcY

John Heisz is a very experienced woodworker and he used the Hitachi version of this saw for many years until it gave out. He made many mods to his saw including
* Zero clearance insert, old version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYo1uq8Qre0
* Zero clearance insert, new version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZs3_d9HIf4
* Zero Clearance Miter Saw Fence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOwZhKX95HM
And many more.

I bought this one and returned it and got DWS780. It's so much better, laser vs shadow line is like a horse vs a car.
Miters 60 degree to the right and 50 degree to the left vs 57 and 45 on metabo. The 60/57 is irrelevant but only 45 is not enough, if you are doing molding walls are never straight and 46-47 degrees come quite often, limiting yourself to only able to do that on one side is a deal breaker. DeWalt can cut like 14 inches at 90 degrees but I believe HTB is limited to 12, might not be a big deal but this helps quite a bit if you need to strip soms ply for typical 16 OC stud spacing say to make a some backing. instead of having to grab the circular saw, you can do it only standing miter.

Holy Molly 78 pounds. Why?
It is between Dewal 8 1/4" and 10" Tale Saw weight.

I am very happy with my Metabo cordless set and was very interested in this, but those reviews on Amazon scared me away. Don't want to drop $300 on a saw with alignment & slider issues.

I got it for $239 and returned it a few years ago. Too bulky and complex compared to Dewalt (I don't own one hoping they will go with forward facing rails like Makita, Festool and I think Metabo may have one as well) My old Hitichi is the best but all the plastic is cracking since it 30 years old. What's the deal with all these companies advertised the crown features it's not the 80s early 90s. I've done standard crown two times since that period and one was on a Victorian. I'm a GC finish carpenter and all the cabinet installations have "L" shaped crown. Was looking at a great deal on a battery Bosch slide saw and it had positive stops on the bevel for crown molding only leaving out 22 1/2 degrees for bullnose corners WTF who designs these things? I was using another contractors Dewalt and was flying through the baseboard with a 22-1/2 stop not having to look at a line.

I have a the 10 inch version of this and it's pretty good for rough cutting and DIY projects. If you want razor tight miters then I suggest you look elsewhere. I have NEVER been able to get a perfectly matching miter. It may be my inexperience as well but I think I've learned enough to know how to cut a tight seamless miter but I still can't get it. Other than that it's been great for everything else on my Ridgid gravity miter saw stand.

Got this a few months back and after nearly a month of working with metabo, had to send it back. The arbor wasn't completely flat causing blade wobble I could reproduce on 2 dif blades. Unfortunately they couldn't replace the part as it was on back order indicating this probably isn't that rare. Looking at the makita ls1219 but very pricey and worried about slide rail alignment issues I've read about. The dws's just take too much space. I'd love to go festool but can't justify the price.

Bosch or Dewalt for the win?
Also, 10" or will I regret later and want the 12"big boy?

I've had mine for about a year or two now. No complaints really. It was aligned and the sliding mechanism works well too. I like it a lot better than my old one that had the rails on the back. My only real complaint is probably that this thing is very heavy. Definitely best suited for being placed in one space or put on a stand with wheels if you must move it.

Can this be upgraded to "shadow cut"?

Very likely! There are kits/diy solutions that would probably work on this saw.

I'm a remodeling contractor, I've owned it for a few years and use it all the time. It's thrown in and out of the back of my truck, it always stays true. Go for it.

My recommendation would be the tools in Home Depot because it has 90 day return policy. If one is facing accuracy and quality issues they can return and buy another brand. 90 days is equal to peace of mind, with just couple of tens extra.
