Nostalgia for an earlier era and the pride of lugging around a paperweight
This is such an ignorant take. Stick with your cheap POS if you like it, but you have no clue what you're talking about. You must be trolling.

What makes them great
Miele is a high-quality European brand. I'm looking at replacing my S7000 model that's lasted for over 15 years without any repairs. It's finally on its last legs, and it's been well worth the money spent on it. It does use bags, but they're HEPA-rated and really help cut down on dust and dander that wreak havoc on my wife's allergies. It's seen some abuse over the years and just kept on working.

Miele is a very respected brand.
How do these stack up against Dyson? (They seem to be similar price range)
From what I understand, Dyson is overrated and you pay primarily for the name. I don't have experience with Dyson, though. That's just based on the pile of research I've done online looking for good vacuums.
Edit: For reference, I'm also considering the Sebo brand canisters.
They are just better at being vacuums. Yes they are less convenient than a battery powered stick, but the stick can only do so much. Quality is better too, but I'd stick to the Miele vacs still made in Germany for that.
Personally, I bought a Sebo because I think it stacked up better against the Miele C3.

I'm interested and new to the Mieli brand. What's the big differences between the C1 and C3?
