Dell Alienware m18 Laptop: 18" 1600p 165Hz, Ryzen 9 7845HX, RTX 4070, 32GB RAM Expired

Those are two very different computers for different use case. You want a light gaming laptop on the go or you want a probably stationery desktop replacement playing games at larger screen?

Dunno why people are so anal on the weight. This is meant for a FULL desktop replacement for people who live on the go. I'm a field engineer and frequent hotels all the time and for years, I hauled my 17" Aliencare laptop which lasted me for years. Much better than carrying a full desktop tower and a 35" ultrawide monitor with a full keyboard and gaming mouse.

I also work from home and use a gaming laptop on the side when not in calls/meetings. Nothing beats spending countless hours in Elden Ring/Skyrim while getting "paid" at the same time . I'm currenly using a 15" MSI gaming laptop but considering moving to a full 18 incher soon. Thats what she said too!

Sounds like you have no idea what you actually need. Might want to take your finger off the trigger and figure that out first.

It looks like they are phasing out the R1's and that's why they've suddenly gotten so cheap.

I bought an Alienware R1 (Intel not AMD) for $1000 off the normal price (sales typically run $300- 400 off). I'd been checking these every week for about 6 weeks.
--Find every Dell you are interested in and add it to your cart.
--Refresh your cart on Mondays, because that's when they update prices.

My last PC was a Dell gaming G7 which was very good but not amazing and after 4 years I was noticing that it was having trouble keeping up. That extra $300 you spend up front will probably buy you an extra 2 years of lifespan. Don't skimp.

PC customer service is mostly terrible but Dell's is the best. Best meaning 3 or 4 stars but 3.5/5 is still great compared to the rest of the industry.

If you have the warranty they'll send a guy to your house to do the work with the part for free (although they will still urge you to ship it to their depot for 1-2 weeks). This is incredible if you're not tech savvy, and it's also nice to have that warranty when all the parts are soldered to the chassis (except the SSD). You can't fix a Dell on your own, generally, and certainly not cheaply. (Or any gaming PC--depending on the hardware failure.)

I live outside the US and this is where the warranty is definitely worth it--they send a guy to your house just about anywhere in the world. The benefit in the US is marginal but in most other countries it's amazing. Even aside from cost, you get guaranteed work. That local may not be good, but Dell has to warranty his work regardless.

That said, in the US the warranty price is VERY high and can probably be skipped. 3 years is the sweet spot in terms of dollars per year.
Dell does occasionally offer deals on warranties, but you have to add the PC to your cart to find out.

Finally, if you don't need a laptop just buy a desktop. Desktops can be upgraded so their value over time is way better than a laptop.

That's what I can't decide. I wfm.
My main set up for play is an Alienware R15 with 4090 paired with a Samsung 49 inch OLED, which is upstairs in my game room.

Downstairs in the living room is my office. Samsung 57 inch paired with a 27inch screen on top. It would be nice to split the 57 when not dedicated fully to doing work, and game some on the 57 inch.

The only negative is I do travel a bit, so having a portable laptop would be ideal, but I don't think it's a deal breaker...
