This post is for one sold Direct from Best Buy as well, not eBay.
But, if you're the type of user who just wants a side device primarily for common internet apps, and don't often take up much space with apps/photos/music/games on their other mobile devices, then sure.
I agree 256GB is probably far too much for most people. They did this on purpose -- there's no 128GB option because they want you to notice the 128GB iPad Pro that only costs $50 more than a 256GB iPad Air, and what's another $50 when you're already spending hundreds?

Yes, especially if you go Open Box and pick one up for 350. At that price it's a no brainer for most people as it's much more powerful than the base 10th gen iPad at the same price but not stupid overpowered and overpriced like the Pro line.
The M1 chip and 8GB of RAM guarantee you'll get at least 5 years of good use before you start to notice any kind of slowdown or sluggishness. Pick up a good 3rd party Pen as well (the Penoval AX Pro 2 is regularly 30 bucks on Amazon and is functionally identical to the way overpriced Apple Pencil) and you'll be surprised how often you use this thing.
That's the shitty base iPad, not the M1 Air.

Good deal

Yeah, any USB-C drive will work. My favorite is one from Sandisk that is the side of a postage stamp but is USB-C on one side and USB-A on the other. Makes moving files around between my old and new computers simple.

You are a VERY casual user.
64gb is barely enough for 2-3 movie rips. If you use your device to record lectures or videos, then expect to be out of storage fast and its an enormous PITA.
