If they gave Oscars for "Movies That Didn't Suck Like You Thought They Were Going To And In Fact Were Pretty Good", this movie would sweep! No brainer at this price, thanks!
I love the original Willy Wonka and when I heard there was going to be ANOTHER remake, my expectations were low to say the least, then I saw the trailer, I couldn't have been more disappointed. Thankfully I have HBO Max and decided to watch it on release because, why not, it's essentially free.
I loved it. I probably have watched it about 10 times now, from the story to the songs, it was really done well. I originally thought Jeremy Allen White should've played the part (due to looks, like a young Gene Wilder) but Timothee Chalamet really knocked it out of the park.
Definitely recommended at this price for sure. Is it a 10/10 movie? No but really just a wholesome and good-feeling movie.
Highly subjective, but I'll put in my 2 cents. I had shut this one off after 20 minutes. I dunno why, but I just couldn't deal with it. I own the original movie with Gene Wilder and I've probably watched it a couple dozen times, so I'm highly biased towards it and this one just rubbed me all the wrong ways.

Agreed. I made it 40 minutes, but it never improved.
We went to a screening about 8 months before it came out, and thought it was the literal worst movie we'd ever seen. I'm not saying that superlatively, it was the absolute worst movie we had ever seen objectively. Then it came out and got decent reviews, so we probably need to watch it again. They must have fixed some of it.
I mean, they're slaves yet they leave the house and wander around and willingly go back?

It's probably the same. And they sneak out and have to go back because they have a roll call. They also mention the police bring them back if they leave due to the contract

Um, excellent writing. Sigh. I think it's probably the same, just people have no perception on good entertainment any more. The bar is soooo low.

This movie seemed so odd to me, like it was written for alien race of people. Like it was a collection of tik-toks or something, where you aren't supposed to pay attention to what must be true between scenes, because the stuff between the scenes unshown would violate the rules of the universe. I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough.

Have some digital credits to use
I am curious though: do fans prefer this version or the Johnny Depp version?
