These are forged and not stamped, so I'd say they're the better of the lower quality line-up. At $80 for 7 knives you can't be expecting handcrafted Damascus steel from Japan.
I'd say it's a decent starter set if you're still cutting raw meat with a stolen steak knife from the campus cafeteria
This is a lower quality line of their knives.
I appreciate the heads up, saves me from having to read more drivel from others that don't have any contribution to make regarding a purchasing decision.

I would recommend getting a knife set with the sharpeners built into the slots on the block. Honing steel is fine but it's a little inconvenient and takes some skill to use properly.
These are Hankles in name only. Performance-wise they are not much different from anything else at this price point. Strike through price and name brand are just for misdirection. Nothing to see here as far as deals go.
Black Friday is half a year away. It's coming, but it isn't anywhere close. You might as well say "Black Friday is coming" in December and wait a whole year for it. Wait, maybe you do.
Black Friday 2035 is coming. Some of those deals will be so good we can't even imagine them now, just like some of the products we haven't dreamt up yet. Better to wait than have buyers remorse then years later.

If you bought Hankels knives in the past, I think I know why you weren't happy with them.
Depends on what Chicago knives you're talking about. These are on par with some, and better than others but not drastically so.
Thanks for the reply. It's been at least 12 years since I've had them. I'm not sure how to look up the model type or number. The block is light wood in color and the knives are black handles. In other words, it doesn't look as nice or fancy as these Henkels from Costco.
I've never seen anyone not store their steak knives in their silverware drawer, unless they have one of those 18-slot blocks.
Same. My knife block has slots for steak knives, and I always forget to grab them because they're not in the drawer. I've had them for 2 years, and for the previous 35 years of my life everywhere I've ever been has had them in the drawer.
i still have a couple of free magnetic ones after coupons from harbor freights. dont really use any of them though. its not so easy to reach underneath the cabinets
Yeah I hated mine when I finally got it. Was so excited to. Felt really hard to put my knife "on" the rack/take it off without risking scratches or nicks on my relatively higher end Shuns. Just... didn't live up to expectations really.
steak knives are like forks and spoons. you dont store those in the block. unless your living all by youself with 1 set of steak knife and fork
Wrong, Buck cutlery knife set comes with a gorgeous block and knives, where my steak knives (6) are in the block by design. Its made with the same steel the normal Buck knives are made from, but the kit is >$600

Well, I say go ahead and get them if you want. Worst case scenario, you hate them and decide to get something else, Costco makes returns pretty hassle free. The detractors make some valid points, but these are surely not horrible, and are definitely a step up from many other cheap sets, and some people love them.

It's 2024 I don't lmao
I keep all my knives in drawers. They sell beautiful wood holders for your drawers. Keeps the counter clean looking.
