I used forty cents of discover rewards to purchase $10 off Albertsons/Safeway gift card valued at $75.

Yeah it's free money. But spending $75 to get $10 is a deal? This is Slickdeals, not lukewarm deals. You'll save more by not spending at all.
paying for your purchase using points + gc balance cannot be done because it leaves out the discover card credit card purchase.
