I have a much older version of this and inwont buy another bc Chamberlain forcing you in to a subscription model if you want any integration.

1) they've actively blocked homebridge to prevent being used with HomeKit
2) they stopped selling the HomeKit adapter/bridge for their existing Smart Openers
3) their retrofit transmitter/sensor also doesn't work with HomeKit

Pretty lame and short-sighted and lost any goodwill with me. I would've considered their smart camera if it worked with HomeKit/homebridge/anything else. But Will def avoid chamberlain family products in the future
$230 on Amazon and Lowe's with 1900 reviews 4.5 ⭐️
MyQ is awful. Completely incompatible with most home automation and previously functional back doors like Homebridge no longer work after an API change. I would stay away from Chamberlain altogether personally and wish I hadn't already owned one.

Common misconception that the opener is pulling the full weight of the door; the tension springs installed above most doors are doing all the heavy lifting. If those are correctly sized / door balanced this is plenty capable (regardless of what the door is made out of).

You asked a question, and now you're arguing with an answer that was given. As you put it so eloquently: I don't understand?

First of all, most people who set up smart homes integrate more than one brand of products. It's not just this one app and then everything else.
Secondly, it's not just about a different app. The lack of integrations means you can't do anything with it in terms of automation or interactions (e.g. automatically close the door when I leave the house or if it's raining).

Maybe try using your brain to think of use cases outside of your own.
But I just connected mine to IFTTT and it can do just that...

You obviously don't, judging by your snarky response to the other poster. Read a little more, it's really easy to understand just from the content on this thread.

I used to think like this but after having a talk with two garage door installer, they told me that the spring tension is the one pulling the weight, not the hp.

Yep - the garage door opener should only be seeing like 5 lbs regardless of the door size/material/etc... I think someone explained it as you should be able to open it one handed while carrying groceries. Now folks can have broken springs, undersized springs, etc... homeowner swaps doors or upgrades adding insulation, etc... without rebalancing and can see problems... but that's all outside operating parameter type stuff.

Yeah... I'm looking for one but paid subscription is a killer for me. I can't wait for the next LG refrigerator to charge me to open the door.

The springs do the lifting. You should be able to open and close your door easily by hand.

Can you close the door via alexa/google? (Sans app)

Couldn't tell you. I would never use 'open mic' software in my private home. ESPECIALLY not for something that could grant access. Think about that for one second…

So you use a smart garage door opener and just press the button?

Need to replace my 23 year old Craftsman chain drive openers. All components are in good shape, and I have 7 foot doors.
Hoping the rails, etc are compatible.
