Get the phone via Walmart
Activate it
Make a call
Pay off the phone (either within 3 days to avoid activation or after 14 days)
Cancel the line.
Phone will be automatically unlocked.
S23+ will get one(?) more year of updates I think. But seeing as it is a back up and you may not touch it, I would get the S22+. People poo poo on the S22+ battery life but again, its a back up. I am getting the S22+ for $200 for my work phone.

Make a call to CS. If they say no, try another agent. Alternatively, you can get a Tello SIM on Amazon for $2 and port your number out. It'll cancel your line.

Yeah, so I tried to purchase this since I have a Verizon monthly prepaid plan. It won't let me buy it. This is a way of sucking you into a contract. I would say caveat emptor on this one and Slickdeals needs to bury this "deal" in the dirt.

I am not sure if this question has already been answered. Per Verizon website, they will unlock the device automatically in 60 days. What is not clear to me is, do I have to be in an active paid service within this 60-day period? Or can I cancel my line earlier and still have the phone automatically unlocked in 60 days?

If you do need to do 60 days of service, it looks like you are out another $80+taxes minimum. Is that right?

Can I use this on a grandfathered prepaid plan? How long will Samsung support this model with android updates?

It's asking for a data plan to set up the Verizon account. Is there any way we can avoid adding a data plan?

On a legacy Verizon 5GB plan. Can this be done as an upgrade? Plan to pay it off and use it on T-mobile

So your bottom line price was $440, or $240 after the trade in discounts?

Bottom line price was $440. Could be less depending on trade in. For example they offered $150 trade-in on OnePlus Nord 10 but on other new phones they only offer $10 for same trade-in.

You do not recall correctly

There is nothing tricky or illegal about a device payment contract.

This is a device payment plan. The deal is that Verizon will let you pay off your phone interest free over 3 years, as long as you have service with them. The real deal here is that you can pay off the phone immediately and go to any provider that you want.

You can if you want to pay the full retail price, it's the 3 year hook is what they want.

I went to two corporate store to try to pay off the phone with cash. The first one couldn't do it and told me I have to wait for two weeks to pay off regardless what myVerizon account says. The second store initially told me the same thing and I showed them what the website says, another guy came over and told the lady to check cash payment option and there is such option indeed so I just paid off. I received the phone this morning, activated it, made one call, sent one text, then headed to the stores to pay it off.
I will cancel the service shortly
