That is the main use case for the masses.

The more advanced use case is routing traffic via Wireguard/OpenVPN for security or IP filtering or more nefarious purposes like routing your work computer to your home network then to company VPN in order to avoid getting detected while working in not allowed locations...
This model is getting to be very old. Despite having a USB port, you CANNOT use a USB drive with this and mount it using SMB. You used to be able to, but once they updated the firmware to the most recent version, there wasn't enough memory to support NAS functionality.

It is still a good router, and it still likely to be able to keep up with the network in most hotels (which is usually crappy). But don't expect too much. Still, I have a couple and I carry one with my laptop.
There's an faster AC travel router from them on sale for $33 -

microusb???? I get cheap crap off ali express and even that has usb-c.

If youre selling a product that is about convenience, dont inconvenience me by making me bring another cable and charging block.

Can this help my use case? I have Xfinity Stream but if I travel away from home I'll get an error if I try to watch a local channel. "I have to be connected to my at home network". Can this spoof like I'm on my local at home network? Any info on how? TIA
You need a router with Wireguard server installed (or set up a computer as a Wireguard server on your home network). It won't be too easy if you are asking me the question if it is possible. Wireguard is just a VPN protocal. You need to make a device on your home network is hosting a VPN.

Hotel wifi -> this router/any travel router with Wireguard client support -> Wireguard server at home -> Xfinity Stream/etc.

To piggy back off that, I used to use this with a tmobile Hotspot and Visible service for home internet for awhile. It worked until visible started throttling down to 3 and 5mbps. I used to do 400GB/month with my set up.

now i just use this for when we travel and I bring an Amazon Alexa echo dot and a chromecast TV

I've been using these routers with visible for years. Consistently use over 1TB/no. You need to change the TTL settings to get full speed.

Does this let you connect it to a wireless network with a captive portal (like at a hotel), and then share that wireless connection to other devices?

I've seen people with issues connecting gaming systems like the Switch as well as Kindles to these types of networks.

I'm wondering if this would resolve that issue.
Yes and No. This is only 2.4 Ghz. So my last travel was a hit and miss. sometimes it works, sometimes it does not with the captcha due to problem with the (2.4Ghz connection with the hotel).
Connection directly with 5 Ghz wifi no issue.

torguard occasionally throws in one of these free with a subscription. wouldn't hurt to contact their sales to see if you can get one of these included if you're also looking for a vpn provider

Can this be used in a car? I'm tired of reconnecting all my devices to my mobile hotspot.

Why the thumbs down? I have not tried it but it should work .

This doesn't have 5Ghz spend extra $10 for dual band as other mentioned. Some hotspots like xfinitywifi only broadcast on 5ghz band now. If family member has xfinity internet you can get free internet with these routers in apartments and neighborhoods you can connect router to xfinitywifi hotspot for all your devices.

Yeah I did that and it never worked for me. I went on multiple threads, websites. Nothing. Just wouldn't work out. Always hit 3mbps or sometimes 5mbps

Thanks for all the comments here. After reading through it all I went with one sft1200 and one mt3000 for my cruise next year. I'll have 6 cabins with three next to each other so I need a strong signal to go through walls. I currently have this model (mango) which I love for hotels but don't think it will work as well for cruise ships with multiple rooms
