For most people, that is probably the only real option short of renting a Uhaul or the like. I know when I bought a C2 last year about this time, I had to make about an hour drive home and laying it flat was exactly what I did. Haven't had any issues...TV has been great.
While my store only had a floor model 65" (C3) left, everyone should ask if they have any other items in back. Turns out, they had a Samsung 65" Q60C in back that was marked down to $269.99. Not the same class of TV, but a great deal none the less. Most stores probably have something that was shipped to store or put there, but never sold (or marketed/displayed on the floor).
I visited the Levittown NY store this morning. The website said they had four in stock, but when I arrived, there was only the display model and one model in the box on the floor. The sales associate said that's all they have and there are no others available.
The signs for the 65 inch said "clearance $1,399". I asked the associate to scan the price to see if it would update. He pulled out a phone looking device and said that the price is still $1399. I politely asked to see a manager. The manager came over and explained that their clearance price cycles are different at each store, so the price might be updated later on. I explained that there is almost no stock left and I cannot come back at a later time because they will sell out. The manager then got out a different scan tool and checked the pricing again, and finally confirmed that it is showing up as $999. I purchased it on the spot.
So if you go to a target, and the price is not updating, be very polite and courteous with the staff, but insist that a manager use the correct inventory scan tool to check the current clearance price of this item. I told the manager that my "friend" (you guys) at another target had this issue with the price not updating and had to get a manager to update it. That seemed to help the credibility of what I was asking. Good luck out there!
I just grabbed a 55 in Miami for 750 to return the one I paid 1k for last week. If I hadn't opened it already they had the 65 in stock as well. Great score!
