One thing to keep in mind here, is this is for the 12v series. Yes it said in the title, but the 5AH battery blinded me of that. So if you're thinking of adding to your 20v Max collection, this is starting over.
just an FYI, acme tools had this promo for 2 months now, but they also had 10% and 20% coupons that stacked with this. there is also cashback from a website i can't mention here because they are competitor.

i paid about $90 for the same thing after coupon and $35 cashback (see attached screen shots). so if you don't need this right now, don't rush because you can do way better
People have strong feelings about it one way or another. Ultimately, in HD's case they explicitly itemize prices and allow partial returns on their bundle deals. If they wanted to put a stop to it, they could/would have done it years ago. They're still moving inventory, still pulling profit.. and customers get to walk away feeling like they got a good deal - everyone's happy except the fun police here who assume HD is getting 'cheated' by allowing this. (inb4 downvotes)

..also kinda goofy to call it a "hack" rather than just the partial return it is.

coupons stack with the buy 1, get 1 free promo. not with other "% off" offers. i attached my invoice for this reason, so you can see what i mean. i got $100 off a $528 order, PLUS i got the free batteries, and the cashback on top of that

acme doesn't have coupon on dewalt at this moment, but they had 10% and 20% coupons during the ENTIRE month of march and most of april. they will have more dewalt coupons next week. so if you want this or other dewalt tools, just check back there once every 2 days or so. if there is a promo, it will show on the item page
Does that include the pruner? That's the only DeWalt tool I want but buying all new batteries sucks.

Feels like low torque on this for the price. 400ft/lb break-away. Paying for size and the logo?

Probably due to it being the 12v line not the 20v max line

I recently flew domestic with three Milwaukee impact wrenches including batteries without problem. It was cargo and not carryons.

Are the 12v and 20v the same battery pattern?

I went busting through the link with excitement before I finally realized it was 12v. Upvoting this for awareness.

Not sure if DeWalt has a 12v Pruner but I have the DeWalt DCPR320 Pruner and it uses the 20V MAX battery. Not sure if a 12v battery would work or even mount on the tool. BTW, it works really well, at least on thick branches. I going to try it to cut 1/2" and 3/4" PVC pipe. It may work but might crush or deform the pipe where it cuts. Not worried about harming the tool; this thing is a beast.

I agree. For some time i could not understand why home depot would create unnecessary returns for the stores, then i realize there must be a significant portion of people who just ended up keeping the extras when they have already spent the money with the tools in their possession

I'm fairly confident the main reason the loophole stays open is to circumvent minimum advertised price agreements with the manufacturers. Many big brands make deals with big retailers that force them to inflate the price so that smaller/specialty retailers that they want to also stock their product can be competitive on much smaller volumes. Also since almost all of the big brands are owned by only 2-3 players it helps prevent a "race to the bottom" price war. It's a win win for big box since they can either sell at MAP and make a ton based on their volume pricing, or they can sell a "hacked" deal tool and still move inventory and still make money. If they aren't doing it the folks buying and breaking kits/combos to resell would just pick up the slack and probably line their pockets a little more anyway.

I sold Ryobi 18V and bought this one two years ago. Dewalt 12V removes lug nuts faster than Ryobi 18V.
Also, this tool shares the 12V battery with my favorite DCF601 screwdriver.
