I picked one up yesterday and it looks and operates like brand new. Mine came in the original box with some electrical tape over some serial numbers and "Refurbished - 90 Day Warranty Applies." Otherwise, like new.

The LG C3 was recently the same price at Microcenter, but I prefer the Sony for a number of reasons which may make it more appealing to you, too. First, the Sony's stand is height adjustable. Second, the Sony's built-in speakers are much, much better. Third, Google TV is miles ahead of WebOS. Fourth, the remote is much, much better than the Magic Wand. Fifth, Sony's video processing is much better on the 720P and 1080P content that will make up most of your TV watching. Finally, Sony just builds better TVs than anyone, in my experience. Yes, the panel is LG, but the caps and soldering are still Sony quality.

The LG, on the other hand, has four HDMI 2.1 inputes vs. 2 on the Sony. It gets a little brighter, and the anti-reflective coating is more effective. Both are great sets, but the Sony at this price was too tempting to pass up.

Microcenter offers extended warranties on these. I may pick up the 3-year with screen protection - I have a cat and he is very, very stupid. As usual, this is in-store only, so YMMV.

Good luck!

So I bought the prior year model A80CK (Costco's A80K model) refurb'd from Secondipity for $1,050 about a year ago now and I'm in a room with a decent amount of natural light and it still seems very bright to me. I prefer Sony TVs because of their build quality and I'm very happy with it. The XR 4K upscaling is fantastic too. Just my two cents 🤷
Good deal. Keep your cat away from your TV. Check out various Reddit posts where cats destroyed, chewed on, or scratched OLEDs.

Here's one for example.

If you can get your hands on one. No targets in my area had stock yesterday, I bet most are out of stock nationwide by now

Is this Sony model really still that much better at upscaling content than the LG C3?

Asking sincerely since I do watch a lot of content on TV like sports. And I think ESPN is always 720p

I've been watching the NBA playoffs on it and compared to the LG A3 48" in our bedroom - it's miles better. That's not a C3 however, but the Sony makes shaky cam 720P NBA games look as good as they can.

sony's android software on these tvs are a horror show. i would stay away even though I love sony products.

It's still better than WebOS. Samsung's smarts are less offensive but also less capable.

latest update on my a8h has slowed the UI to a crawl and constantly losing wifi connection. i have reset the tv to no avail. Watching Paramount is like watching stills. everything works great on my shield. my brother's c3 lg runs great.

I have an X90L, It is Google TV like a chromecast as opposed to legacy Android TV, it's not bad at all. Do I prefer my Apple TV upstairs? Sure, but it all just works and is faster seemingly than a Chromecast with Google TV, Also Bravia Core is frickin awesome for it's limited library.

With Reality Creation even at default on the Sony there is a noticeable difference with low res especially with lower res like 720p, its cleaner, has more depth, and natural looking sharpness vs jagged sharpness.

Sony OLED seems to have a blue tint as I saw from YouTube. Not sure if the a8/a9 owners can comment on that.
Sony uses an alternate white point, it's not really blue it's more green looking when side by side, LG, Samsung, Panasonic etc uses the standard warm white point. You can even calibrate the others to that same Sony white point, or calibrate Sony to traditional white point.

Sony TV quality is way better than LG, can't speak for recent Samsung products though. Currently still running on X850D bought back in 2016, it's old now so I expect it to have a few hiccup once in a while, which it does, and a bit on the slow side comparing to newer model. Had a LG before, can't remember which model but one of the top end line with 3D, that thing kick the bucket within 2 years barely even being use. I'll take Sony TV longevity over LG any day even if the LG TV looks better.

I have the A80CJ, couple of X90CJ and LG C3 and I don't like the Sonys are that bad, the only thing I hate is the occasional wifi dropout, if I have an app freeze I just hold the power button and hit restart. Think the newer Sonys are smoother than mine for sure, LGs i think is great, I think the horror show would be Samsungs os.

It's been this price for a few months and I checked my local micro center last month it's not manufacture refurbished but an unknown third party refurbished…staff doesn't know anything have to get confirmed from a manager, a small tag says 90 days manufacture warranty not applied even though the website shows it does. I guess that's why the one nearby hasn't been sold for months. So be careful and double checkSmilie

BTW, if you want to get it, I got another two cents: I had a80l and returned for a s90c. Sony algorithm is much better than lg/samsung, upscaling is noticeable better. However my use case is using it as a monitor for 90% of time with nas for 4k contents, so Samsung's qd-oled is also noticeable better than Sony/lg woled. The perfect ones are always way too expensive so can't have them all on a budget lol, sneaky companies lol.
Hope that helpsSmilie

I saw the deal and upset I didn't take it. With 3 year warranty + taxes + truck rental, it would have been close $2100 and not sure if it would have been worth the risk.

Think it was close to that price with home delivery for me. In my opinion it was worth the cost and a decent deal in comparison to what I would've paid elsewhere.

$2550 + $200 on GT for a new unit + 3 year warranty (including burn-in protection). $2999 at most retailers + tax + whatever their warranty would've cost. So all in all, it was a minimum of 25% savings and I'm still protected by a 3 year warranty including on any screen issues.

Don't think the LG is quite as good of a deal since the price is dropping everywhere, but still may be worth it for some.

I understand the skepticism. Refurb deals like this are always a bit YMMV. If you want the security of a good warranty, it's hard to beat Microcenter's - if that peace of mind is important to you, it's an easy value-add to the purchase price.

TV's will generally fail quickly or not at all. I got mine, unboxed it, inspected the screen, ran OLED burn pattern tests, and determined I got a good one. The manufacturer box looked almost new, and it included all accessories - stand, remote, AC cord, and the plastic cover for the ports.

I strongly prefer Sony's Reality Creation look to Samsung's clearmotion type stuff. My previous favorite TV was a Panasonic plasma, so dim is no problem for me - and this TV is demonstrably not dim. But again, preferences exist, and I'm glad you got something you like.

Debating this + the 3 year warranty (since it's a refurb) vs New S90C with free mounting from Samsung.com . Both are ~$1200 pre-tax.

Everything I've seen has pointed to QD-OLED being worth it. Unfortunate since I prefer Sony interface

I wouldn't say way better 😅 This is not 90s or early 2000s any more. Besides Sony uses LG panels. Sony just does color representation better than others and that's it. They do charge extra for that.

Edit: I currently own both Samsung, LG and Sony and I like them all.
