Since most of you aren't WiFi enthusiasts, let me break this down even further to the most important specs:

WiFi Speeds
6 GHz: 2402 Mbps (802.11ax) - This is 2x2 and that makes it a RED FLAG
5 GHz: 4802 Mbps (802.11ax) - This is 4x4
2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps (802.11ax) - This is 2x2 and seems no one really cares about this in performance testing

Ethernet Ports
1× 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN Port
1× 1 Gbps WAN/LAN Port
3× 1 Gbps LAN Ports
No 802.3ad support - This means you cannot bond LAN ports

Processor
1.7 GHz Quad-Core CPU
RAM - Unknown - They hide this info
Flash - Unknown - They hide this info

I would not touch this router at $200 or even $100 if you are primarily want to use the 6 GHz band. If you don't care about 6 GHz band then you're okay.

Tplink require subscription to use routers full feature which is disgusting
Needs at least 4 more antennas before I buy.
Iirc it was some advanced security (router level anti-virus) and parental limits stuff, they gave free trials in the beginning and required a subscription to continue using them, and some people were bothered by that.

TP-Link is a China brand, too.

Ubiquiti.

Alta Labs.

Firewalla.

Takes some time to research but these are much better options.

Fine, fine print: The additional antennas are purely decorative and will not improve reception. Lol

Bought this about a year ago for the same price back when it was available exclusively from Costco. Has only had like 2 firmware updates since then but it's been rock solid.

Technically in Hong Kong, but that's PRC now. The software (OpenWRT) is open source and you can log directly into a normal Linux terminal and see everything that's going on. That's something all these closed source routers don't have.

Nah, you're 100% wrong. This router was released on September 23rd 2013. Asus been supporting it for 11 years and counting. They won't stop until 2030 lmao.
absolutely not wrong. most tp link routers have very little in the way of firmware updates. my last router purchase was tp link archer 4000. it was released June 19, 2018. last firmware update was 1.1.1 Build 20190827 rel.78773(5553), thats right. a whole year of updates lol. not good.

i won't be buying another tp link router. its been stable and quick but no other firmware options due to broadcom modem and nothing special on a tp link router that gives them an edge. i use alot of kasa and other tp link products, happy with them. would recommend asus for routers if they haven't lost their mind with the pricing.

You can't tell me that all those antennas aren't overkill. You can inform me about the tech/specs, my fingers in my ears. "Lalalala lalalalalala LALALALA."

The hardware versions / firmware versions are confusing. You might be able to run the firmware from a newer hardware version. Read the fine print carefully in their download section.

Agreed. Also antennas are not sharp enough.
Hard pass (no OpenWRT support).

this is one of those things that have been popping up in every neighborhood. you can mount this outside on top of the pole and send out your own 5g signal throughout the neighborhood
