If you are worried about losing your item then you can use it as is and it'll help you find it.
If you are worried about your item being stolen then you will need to remove the speaker and hide it well within the item you are protecting. The item will still alert the thief that there is an air tag traveling with them but they won't be able to find it (since the speaker is removed and you hid it well) so they'll just dump the item somewhere and you can retrieve it.
If you are trying to keep tabs on kids, as long as there are iPhones near them it will ping but if the iphone setup with the air tag is not near by then everyone with iPhones will get an alert that they are getting tracked.
Another function is left behind so if you are worried about leaving an item behind somewhere (purse, backpack, etc) then you can set it up to alert you when you leave the item behind.

I said iPhone not 'my phone". I still have my phone on me.
plus it shows if a thief tries to steal you car it will beep and they will be able to find it and toss it out.
Great idea. Never thought to put one in the stroller at amusement parks. I've had that happen where they move your stuff and waste time finding where they put it.
