Not true.

My subscription just ended on 04/23/24. I resumed my account with the given code, then cancelled right away. I'm good until 05/25/24.

It attempted to process mine a few times, but my virtual card only had $1 available to charge, so it wouldn't go through. I got a few emails about it.

Been canceling right away. Maybe next time I'll just cancel my virtual card but keep the account active and see what it does.
