More inputs, better op-amp chips and most importantly, it can be used as a DAC on a HiFi system. DAC, digital to analogue converter, is the device that translates digitally stored information from a PC, mobile phone or other such device into the analogue sound that we can hear. Generally, a DAC can improve sound quality.
I have been using this DAC for a year and a half. It has been dead reliable besides the the port being damaged on the first one I got from Amazon. I use it with my HD 58x Jubilee and it has no issues whatsoever, always sounded good. It is full aluminum and the nobs are premium. Good deal for a headphone DAC.

So from my very limited googling, a headphone amp connected directly to let's say a 3.5 mm jack of a laptop would just amplify crummy signals if the manufacturer didn't install a nice dac. This would bypass that integrated dac and in theory provide better audio out of the laptop? Would this also drive or power nice headphones with high impedance or do I still need a headphone amp for that?

Thanks https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...ot-worship.gif
Depends on what headphones you have. This is DAC + headphone amp. According to spec :
Output power: 1000mw@16Ω, 500mw@32Ω, 300mw@64Ω, 150mw@128Ω, 80mw@300Ω;

Thanks worship

Both PCs and mobile phones typically have built-in lower quality DACs and amplifiers, but many lack sufficient power to drive high-impedance headphones. This device replaces them, offering the capability to drive headphones with higher impedances effectively.

Ahh I didn't catch that thank you! My limited reading didn't cover combo amp/dac units and yes this should be able to handle my headphones.

I see, I was having a hard time figuring out what application would be best for a dac and a stand alone amp but now I think I have an idea. Thanks OP, good deal!

The easiest way for me at least is usb. You have one cable that powers the unit and carries signal.

Is this good for something like the beyerdynamic 770 250 ohm? I've used them for a long time on a regular audio output, but wondering if this will make a noticeable difference in quality.

Connect it to the "Audio In" RCA port of your stereo receiver or amplifier.

You would use the USB, Optical or Coaxial input. These are all DIGITAL inputs. The concept of "clean" output is only really relevant to analog signals. As long as the digital signals are good enough to "work" their "cleanliness" is moot. This isn't true if you use the 3.5mm input which is analog and would largely defeat the purpose of the DAC if using it with a PC.

Not to be confused with the similarly named FiiO K5 Pro. I have owned the FiiO for years and have been happy with it overall, but I'm using it to drive headphones for music production and mixing, not gaming necessarily. Although it's fine for gaming it isn't purpose built for that activity.

I'm unfamiliar with the one in the deal but I thought I'd share since I had to do a double take on the name.

Probably not increase the quality, just will make the headphones louder. Quality of the sound can be improved by setting the equalizer to match the headphone's profile.

I have a headphone amp/DAC (Topping DX3 Pro+), but other than boosting the volume, it really doesn't do anything to the quality of the sound that is objectively better than my computer's built in DAC. I mainly like it for the multiple inputs.

I currently run a Yamaha AG06 6-Channel Mixer USB Audio Interface in my studio, would this compliment that or be redundant? Thanks!
