This Danby unit is almost identical to the very popular Midea U-Shape unit and is much cheaper. The only difference is the cosmetic grille on the front, they are functionally identical.

Midea one was $225 on Amazon in Feb... Not the best price, for a knck off.
I have the Midea 8000. It's the best. Never buying a "regular" loud AF window AC again.
Disagree. The price of these units will stay high as the summer is here. Won't see a deal like that until it gets cold again. Also it's not a knockoff, it's the same machine with a different brand on it.
10 of the 12 reviews were "originally posted on darby.com". Might not be a big deal but I'm sure someone had to pick which reviews were going to Target.

I have both - they are very similar if not exactly the same with the exception of the plastic on the front and the remotes (I actually prefer the Danby remote slightly).
Both the Danby and Midea apps work for each other they actually use the same login too, so if you sign up to Midea you can log into Danby and vice-versa. The Danby has a 2yr warranty and the Midea has 1yr.
Both are good and cool exactly the same as far as I can tell - extremely quiet on low and high is still quieter than a traditional non inverter window unit on low.
I have one of these as well and the difference between the 8000 and the 12000 is not as big as you'd think due to the extreme power saving of these units.
You can trick it into thinking it's 100+ degrees in the room (I strapped an old USB thumb drive to the temp sensor and plug it in with extension if I want to cool the room down quicker) and that will get the compressor running at full power then the differences are more noticeable.

How many sq ft does your 8k BTU unit serve? What's this about strapping a usb thumb drive to the temp sensor? Any resources for this?

About 250 sq ft for each of the 8000's, they replaced old loud 8000's so far seem good but it hasn't been super hot yet (only got up to 85f but about 75% humidity, so far no problem keeping up on low but the real test comes when it's 95f+). They are so much quieter.
That isn't the u shaped version which is quite a bit quieter. The 12k u shape was on sale for $299 at HD a while back.
You are correct....
I missed the HD $299 sale you're referring to and the Sam's Club product (although not U-shaped) uses the same inverter technology....and with similar electric usage savings.
You are correct about the quietness.
Thanks for correcting me 😁

I got the idea here but didn't want to risk voiding the warranty - I verified the difference with a watt meter as well:
