I moved my 2 of these saferacks from my old house to my new one and I cant remember them being a pain. So returning should be easy if you are not satisfied. Been on it's current location for 5+ years as well with nothing that would make me worry about.
Well.. the 2x4's my 95lb TV hangs off of isn't exactly load bearing either. I think as long as folks use appropriate lags, and don't put ridiculous heavy crap on them it should be okay. I use my above head racks for stock piling on paper goods like TP and paper towels.
Just pay attention folks. Regardless of how well you mount something, you just consider worst case scenario if it was to fall, fail, break, give-way, etc.!
For example, https://awc.org/calculators/span-...d-rafters/
Assuming 12' span and the fully rated 600lbs/32 sqft with 24" joists, you'd need at least 2x8 joists (1-1/2" x 7-1/4" nominal size) to be fully rated for the load.
Notice the load rating on the bottom cord is different than the top for this particular truss, for live loads it's 0lbs meaning you shouldn't put a garage door on the bottom. Others may be just enough to support the door.

Am I looking at any potential issues?
Don't know why this is downvoted, it's the truth, I once saw an entertainment system full of dust and cobwebs sitting in a cart at the service deskā¦that (based on its colorā¦whitewash) was probably 10 years old! Not to mention, we returned a mattress that was awful on our backsā¦ever try to stuff a memory foam mattress back in the box? š
But back to topicā¦. I love these, I've been contemplating more since we are full right now and the wife wants her garage backā¦we've got kayaks and Christmas decorations on ours now, but could use more room.
Also PRO TIP: zip tie some motion activated led shop lights to the under side of these and you won't be sorry (my work bench is right underneath these racks and the light helps since the actual garage lights are partially blocked by the items being stored on the racks!
I did that few days ago
Fantastic - any advice?
Any advice on choosing the "professional" installation vs local/yelp handyman?
