Cats are also prey. Outdoor cats here get eaten by coyotes.
They still need protection from the elements: sun, wind, rain, cold. Just like you, I presume.
It's the warmth they seek in the winter

Exactly. They belong inside.

My cat lives outside and both of us prefer it that way. Yes there are coyotes but he knows what to do and has kept himself safe for going on two years now. There's basically spots around my property that a coyote can't get into. Better that than being locked up in my house all day, nothing going on, and the litter piling up. one day he will probably get eaten but that is part of the food web. For the same reason I don't put out lots of food and water, he gets whatever meat scraps I have from making dinner and the occasional dish of leftover milk from the kid's breakfast. any more than that he will forget how to hunt and just hang around my house 24/7 hoping for handouts. this way he gets bonus food to supplement his bird/gopher/lizard diet so he's well nourished but he remains the lean top predator that he was before I befriended him.

Dont get me wrong I am fully supportive of house cats but after having had several I feel that the best relationship and situation for me/us is for the cat to be outside if that's what they like (and were feral to begin with).

I thought that I found a better house for cats, but $50 shipping killed the deal.

This garbage won't last one season outdoors.

Amen. As minimally invasive as it is, male sterilization should be something offered for free (government subsidized) instead of just Planned Parenthood. We'd save a TON of $$ in the long run, and it would virtually eliminate irresponsible breeding.

I line cardboard boxes with old linen and bath towels for the the outdoor cat(s) around here, more so during the colder months. I feel like this cat shelter would probably get destroyed, funked up or go unused.. And yes, I believe the cats I see do kill birds. But that's a people problem. There is a woman who has claimed the cats as hers but obviously allows them to roam free all day.

Lifespan of outdoor cats is like one third of indoor cats 😕

I had a similar one in my screened porch for many years. There was a pet door from house to porch and the cats were always out in the porch. My 2 cats slept in that house all the time. It was their place. The one I had was smaller, really sturdy (zipped together), made out of a green canvas, and I could plug it in and the bottom pad would heat up.

True, and this house won't protect a cat from a determined coyote.

If it goes in a tree?

Why? This is cruel. It just makes it harder for birds of prey to kill the cats. I just assume any house cat I see outside is unwanted and meant to feed the hawks and eagles.

I have no problem with that. Less time for the invasive mothertruckers to destroy ground nesting birds and other wildlife.

So you don't actually have a cat...you just feed one. There is a difference.

Domesticated cats are predatory and have no place in the natural environment or the suburban environment in which native wildlife are forced to adapt. They should all be chipped and when captured by animal control, destroyed with the registered owners required to pay a very substantial fine. Keep domesticated animals fenced in, leashed, caged or in the house.
