If you have or plan on using TMO I recommend to get the Inseego MiFi X Pro (3000B = T-Mobile). You can occasionally find them on the bay for ~$100 ish in like new (locked). They can be unlocked after 40 days on the TMO network. They have 5G and all LTE bands under the sun and will work almost anywhere in the world once unlocked and are 4G/5G. https://static.inseego.com/us/dow...mobile.pdf
The "uncarrier who became a carrier again" makes a bit of a fuss if you ask for the unlocking if it isn't financed through them, so def wait until after 40+ days on the network before you bug them about unlocking the device.
I'm with AT&T for mobile and Xfinity for Home Internet and am looking for a backup for the latter for the times it goes out. We're in a single bar reception area so a better antenna than a phone sounds attractive.

Not interested in putting in other SIMs at this time but might not be a bad idea to have that capability.

Would I be able to get a tablet SIM from TMO with a $15 plan and pop it into the Inseego to use it as the wired (i.e. Ethernet connected) WAN for my router?

I have the AT&T Unlimited Elite with 50GB hotspot. Is this still helpful or should I get something like this and change to a less expensive plan with only 5GB hotspot data?

The Inseego Pro doesn't allow unlimited data, though, on the business tablet plan. Only the Verizon 2000 Inseego does (not the 2100).
Oh wow, the device somehow affects how the plan gets applied? Crazy.

Very Simple. The listing tells you it's L O C K E D !!!

Don't rely on some database indicators pulled from some eBay DB, always look what the seller tells you in the title and description. If it does not specifically say unlocked, it is likely locked if it is a carrier device.

Seller tells you "DEVICE IS LOCKED TO AT&T NETWORK AND ONLY WORKS ON AT&T AND ITS MVNO LIKE CRICKET, H2O, GENMOBILE, AIRVOICE."

Does this work ona cruise ship?
Only in port. There are no cell towers on the ocean. Within a few miles while the coast is nearby maybe. IF there are cell towers in that area. Cruise ships get their connection through satellite, that's why they are charging you an arm and a leg for every little bit of data that you send. Best to turn off the device and enjoy the trip until you are in a harbor.

The hotspot plan will work, the tablet one not sure.
But the inseego 3000 does have an ethernet port for LAN.

Not yet. What you're looking for is a satellite connection. The starlink/t-mobile partnership might be able to do this in a few years.

It's because Tmobile doesn't have the IMEI for a few of the Verizon hotspots in its database, so it thinks it's in a phone and therefore not hotspot data but native.

These are great for RVers and boaters while in port. However, I prefer DIY stuff because you can get unlimited data plans for $10-20 a month. Most hotspot plans are never unlimited.
